no challenge, no cigar ... yet still addictive

User Rating: 7 | Prince of Persia PC
There is not much to be said about this game -- it's almost perfect in many ways and then it unceremoniously fails with the big one: there is no challenge -- YOU CAN'T DIE NO MATTER HOW STUPID OR SUICIDAL YOUR MOVE IS. Sadly, this is by design. Not sure what led the developers to make this decision, but it ruins otherwise almost perfect game. What would be the purpose of any game but for the player to meet the challenge and come out victorious.

Still, many will find this game addictive due to its excellently executed platforming, excellent graphics and visuals, great level design, and decently deep story. Sounds and dialogs are OK, but nothing to write home about. Combat system is fairly simple, but becomes very predictable once you figure out the way to win the fights. Camera angles could be much better -- for some reason in many scenes they are more suitable for making machinima movies than for combat/gameplay.

Overall, the potential of this third-person perspective game was excellent only to be ruined by offering no challenge by design. Still, I think it's worth your time to enjoy this adventure. Overall score: 6.8/10.
