A great arcade racer that brings a shallow (but fun) gameplay experience to Xbox.

Like the game I am reviewing, I will try to keep this short and sweet. Outrun is the exact example of an arcade racer that is put on a home system and it can't re-create the experience. The graphics are great. There is no slowdown whatsoever. The cars all handle well and it's a blast to play. There are a good variety of tracks, even though you just go backwards through some of them making it feel like there are more tracks than there are. The game TRIES to give you a compelling reason to play this one-player for longer than 15 min. by incorporating a 'mission mode', which sounds great.....in theory. There are lots of cars to unlock and it can addicting with all of the different challenges.

The problem lies that this is an arcade game. It's just not designed to be a overwhelmingly deep game. To it's credit, anyone who knows anything about videogames, would expect that when they purchased the game. I got it used, but this is NOT worth $40-$50. By now, like myself, you could get it used at Gamestop or whatever. For $10, this is a steal. And if you have Xbox Live, it's even better. Because, in the end, that's really where the game shines.....multi-player.

If you are expecting an engrossing gameplay experience, look elsewhere. If you want a fun, arcade-style racing game to play with your buddies or on Xbox Live.....this is a great option. It's great to look at and a blast to play. Give it a rental!!
