Dragon Rising opens as a worthy successor of Operation Flashpoint, but fails miserably in length and content.

I'm a big fan of the first game. I must have played it for over 100 hours. The multiplayer was ok but the level editor was amazing. If you wanted to show you're friends, you could build and play a really neat mission in all of about 15 mins. The campaigns, both American and Russian were really fun too. I loved that you were constantly switching between characters from mission to mission. One moment you were a Spec Ops planting satchels and then next you were an A-10 pilot bombing a tank column. It kept it interesting.

When I first started playing Dragon Rising I was truly amazed by the gameplay aspects. I love how your teammates seek cover and are actually pretty smart overall. In a way, the game reminded me of COD: Modern Warfare, with a more tactical and open approach.

So why such a low score? Unfortunetly you dont get to fly a helicopter, drive a tank, or even drop bombs in the entire campaign, unlike the original installment. After each mission you keep wondering if you're going to fly a plane or just do something different. Don't get me wrong, the infantry and spec ops missions are all top notch, but with a game like this, you just get the feeling there is so much more, but there isnt! I couldn't believe it when the credits started scrolling down. I honestly thought it was an easter egg.

You also never end up having more than 3 teammates through the entire game. What if I want a big group like in the old game? Or even a solo mission? None of that is in this.

The story needs to be seriously improved too. I'd like to know more about the characters I'm playing. Who are these chinese that I'm fighting? What are they after exactly? Not enough is revealed through the campaign. One opening video and one closing video are simply not enough.

So many minor adjustments could be done to this and it would be just that easy to make it game of the year. Especially if official DLCs were available.
