The ultimate ninja experience.

Ninja Gaiden SIGMA was pretty much all about kickiass ninja action, Ninja Gaiden SIGMA 2 not only takes it to the next level but also adds many other addicting features.

A woman named Sonya was in search for Ryu Hybusa, the ninja of the dragon lineage, in order to warn him about the black spider clan's plot of resurrecting the greater fiends, after going through a small run in with the black spider clan Ryu met with Sonya in Tokyo, after informing him of the great danger Ryu sets out to stop the fiends once again.

Like the first game the story isn't really original or complex, you are basically going to go through various levels, solving a few puzzles and slaughtering every single enemy on sight, its all pure action, no beating behind the bush story plot or back tracking, just kill anything that moves.
Graphic wise the game looks alright, not the most impressive character models either but the attention to detail is appreciated, despite the fact that TECMO decided to remove a lot of blood effect from the PS3 version of the game.
Story mode is split in to various chapters, 13 you will be playing as Ryu while 3 chapters in Between you will play as Momiji, Ayane and Racheal.

Then there is chapter challenge which challenges you to replay stages from story mode to rack up some points to show off in online leader boards.

Then there is Team Missions, where you get to set a list of various co-op missions offline or online, there are various missions from eliminating fiends to bosses and is by far a very addictive and fun mode.

The combat in Ninja Gaiden SIGMA 2is relatively the same as the game before, there are various combos you can perform that can apply to various situations and there are special moves like the Izuna drop or the guillotine throw, and interesting feature is the demolition technique, where once you decapitate and enemy you can perform instant kill moves that various and can be performed by any weapons.

Ninpo also makes a return with various magic spells (although Momiji, Ayena and Racheal only have one weapon and one Ninpo exclusive to each) and Ultimate technique also returns, where you hold the triangle button to charge up your ultimate technique to unleash devastating moves, once enemies are defeated they will drop essence which can either be used to shop for items at Muramasa's shop (where you can also upgrade your weapons at certain points) or can be consumed in battle to do a quick ultimate technique charge.

Ninja Gaiden SIGMA 2 is full of content, you can play the story mode and attempt to finish them at all difficulties or attempt to complete team mission mode as well as many other unlockables such as costumes and trophies.

One quarrel I had with the game though was how some of the bosses were designed, some bosses were punishingly difficult even at an easier setting and it is a bit of a put off that button mashing worked on them better than strategy, another thing is that you cannot pause in team missions, its understandable that such a function would be missing for online co-op but its odd that you can't pause or quit offline.
Camera like the first game can also be an issue sometimes and sometimes during gameplay between areas the game tends to freeze to load which can be of a niusence especially when you are in the middle of performing combos.

With that said Ninja Gaiden SIGMA 2 is an action game you should definitely consider on your list, the game play is great, team mission is fun and addictive (and hardly has any lag issues from personal experience) and there is plenty of exploration for you to do in turns of weapon combos and general combat.
