Xbox 720 has Siri-like voice recognition?

Microsoft supposedly beefing up speech recognition technology for next-generation Xbox.
Microsoft's next-generation Xbox will feature improved voice recognition technology across the board, sources have told The Verge. People reportedly familiar with the next Xbox say it will support "wake on" voice, natural-language controls, and speech-to-text. Gamers will be able to walk into a room and say "Xbox on" to boot up the console, these people said.
In addition, a Kinect sensor--perhaps the rumored Kinect V2--will be able to detect users in a room and suggest appropriate multiplayer games based on a voice search, the sources said.
This natural-language detection is said to be similar to Apple's Siri service, which allows users to ask questions and see results in real time. In an Xbox context, players could ask, "What are my friends playing?" and their friends list would appear.
Speech-to-text will be built into the Xbox 720, the sources said, allowing users to input messages and codes with their voices and not through manual button presses. On top of this, the next-generation platform will reportedly feature Skype integration in some way. Microsoft purchased Skype in 2011 for $8.5 billion, though the video service has yet to appear on the Xbox.
Microsoft has yet to discuss plans beyond the Xbox 360 and declined to comment on this rumor. The company is believed to announce its next-generation platform at an Apple-style media presentation in March, perhaps in conjunction with the Game Developers Conference.

None of this matters if the 720 does a 180 on gamers and blocks used games and requires always on internet. None of it matters cause I would not by the console.
I absolutely would like to enter into the next gen of gaming, but if MS does what is rumored then I am outta next gen gaming no matter what is built into the system.

i'm kinda glad their boosting the speech recognition, providing it works with more apps LIKE THE DVD PAYER! the first thing i want to do is tell the xbox to pause when the phone rings - instead i have to go out looking for the bloody controller.
Why are advancements in technology these days just gimmicks rather than something meaningful?

@wyan_ lol move your speaker away from your kinect and calibrate your voice again. Problem solved. I have flawless skyrim kinect commands. I don't even have to speak loudly.
@VenkmanPHD @wyan_ Well, wish I had your problem Venkman! I have exactly the same issue as wyan (which made it all the funnier to read).
My Kinect is not near a speaker and I've calibrated multiple times. Same problem. "Quick map" is also a particular bugbear of mine - usually get the magic menu instead!
The same rumors where for WIndows 8, in the end nothing happend.... ofc i hope those are true.

@berserker66666 well the xbox 1 was alot better then the ps2 hardware i had like 3 ps2 systems and only one xbox it was the same with the ps1 the ps1 would over heat all the time almost all launch ps1 system had heat problems this is nothing new to launch systems the xbox 360 had some problems at the start and people act like this is the first time this has happend to a launch system
@berserker66666 hahahahaha God let's hope there is no RROD this time around. Even so. my x360 is WAY better than my ps3, all said and done.
Good stuff....love the current voice commands on kinect, I use them all the time......as long as the new commands are as useful this should be great.
@Alucard_Prime I use the voice commands every day. I haven't used the body tracking since the day I bought kinect. lol

6 Like I know I am getting old (43) when all I want is a good game system with out all the bells and whistles.
@Triton I'm old too but I think this is cool. The voice recognition on my son's kinect version of the xbox is pretty useful (I still use a 1st generation xbox).

RUMOUR HAS IT! Damn... A lot of these speculations would be pretty darn sweet if they came to be.. But until February 20th and some point during March I shall just hope that the next gen offers something equally as good as whats been reported (minus the always online, unable to play second-hand games malarky)

7 Like Siri is nothing special. It doesn't do anything ground breaking others haven't done before and even gets things wrong quite frequently.
Instead of adding voice controls. How about making it easier for me to get where I want with a controller instead of letting me see 5 panels at a time 3 of which are ads.

I personally enjoy the kinect for the voice features being able to keep my controller off and get up and be like xbox pause, been waiting to be able to be like xbox on, but all in all these are just gimmicks. We need solid games with good features and solid online support, enough with gimmicks and give us solid features that engage us in games.Kinect is nice but really I bet that most use it for the Voice recognition, if you are going to have this as a main staple MS STEP IT UP.
