Update: Phil Harrison has announced during Microsoft's Xbox showcase in Cologne, Germany, that all Xbox One preorders will include a bundled copy of FIFA 14 when the console launches later this year. All existing preorders will include the free copy of FIFA 14, Harrison added. The offer will be available while stocks last.

Original Story: Microsoft could be gearing up for a Gamescom 2013 announcement that it will bundle a game for free with every European Xbox One at launch, in an attempt to lure customers away from buying a PlayStation 4 later this year, both CVG and MCV have reported.

The move is designed to make the Xbox One's £429 price tag more appealing over Sony's PlayStation 4, which will be sold for £349.

CVG reports that a "major third-party title" will be bundled free with every Xbox One, with an anonymous source saying it would be the same title Microsoft executive Phil Spencer was teasing for a Gamescom 2013 reveal. Microsoft is reportedly spending millions on the deal, says the site.

The site also reports that Microsoft could be lining up a similar promotion for North American buyers.

Meanwhile, MCV reports that Microsoft has signed a deal with EA to bundle copies of FIFA 14 with the Xbox One. FIFA is one of the biggest games in Europe, with FIFA 13 selling more than 3 million copies in the UK alone.

Sony has already pledged that PlayStation Plus subscribers will get a cut-down version of upcoming next-gen racer DriveClub for free, with fewer cars and tracks than in the main game, when the PlayStation 4 launches later this year.

Microsoft will release the Xbox One in November.
