Xbox exec on Crackdown 3: "I'm going to bite my tongue"
Microsoft Game Studios VP Phil Spencer says he believes in the unannounced project; Xbox 360 support to continue for "years."
In a new OXM interview, Microsoft Game Studios corporate vice president Phil Spencer was asked about the possibility of Crackdown 3, to which he replied, "I'm going to bite my tongue."
The interviewer commented, "We still believe!" and Spencer added, "I do too. I do too."
A Crackdown agility orb appeared during Microsoft's Xbox One reveal event in May and Spencer said a month later that this was not accidental, adding that the series could live on in the form of a cloud-based next-generation game.
Spencer previously commented that he would like to see the Crackdown series return with the "right team and time." Original Crackdown developer Realtime Worlds has since closed, while Crackdown 2 studio Ruffian Games has confirmed it is not working on Crackdown 3.
Also in the OXM interview, Spencer commented on how long Microsoft plans to support the Xbox 360 now that the Xbox One is on the horizon.
"Years," Spencer said. "Last generation was different for us, we moved pretty quickly. This time, you will see us staying committed to the Xbox 360. I think it's a great platform. In certain areas, like trying to switch apps quickly, it shows that it was built in a different era, but in terms of the price point, the content library--I don't have the stats, but I bet it's the largest content library ever created in the history of the game space. So it's a great time even now to get into the Xbox 360 ecosystem. It's something we'll remain committed to on the content side as well as the platform itself."
The Xbox One launches in November for $499/€499/£429.
