Nintendo's new portable, the 3DS, was a huge success at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. Not only did it draw huge lines of excited gamers, but it also took home the prestigious Best of Show accolade. And one man jumping aboard the 3D express is Julian Gollop, the creator of X-Com.

Writing in the comments section of a Gamasutra interview with 2K Marin's Jonathan Pelling concerning the upcoming X-Com first-person shooter, Gollop revealed that he's working on a 3DS launch title. Additionally, he enlightened readers on his stance on the real-time strategy genre.

"Publishers run a mile from anything with turn-based mechanics--it is regarded as too niche. RTS games pretty much killed off turn-based strategy games in the mid-'90s--but now even RTS games are regarded as niche," he wrote. So all my experience working turn-based games from 1983-1997 is now somewhat obsolete, despite the success of X-Com. However, I am now working on a turn-based tactical RPG which will be a 3DS launch title."

It is unclear what the name of the purported title is, but there may be more. Gollop's LinkedIn page indicates that he has been employed by Ubisoft's Sofia, Bulgaria, branch since 2007. The French publisher currently has a tactical 3DS Ghost Recon title dubbed Lead the Ghosts scheduled to launch alongside the system, which might be the title Gollop is currently working on. As of press time, Ubisoft had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment or clarification on the matter.
