GoldenEye 007 targeting DS

Activision confirms classic N64 shooter headed to Nintendo's handheld alongside Wii version this November, courtesy of n-Space.

At this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, Nintendo put to bed speculation on whether it would be reviving GoldenEye 007, announcing that a reimaginging of Rare's Nintendo 64 classic would arrive for the Wii this November. However, Activision won't be limiting the game to just Nintendo's console.

As part of a grim earnings report this morning, Nintendo revealed that GoldenEye 007 is also in development for its 132 million-unit-selling handheld, the DS. Activision subsequently confirmed the listing for GameSpot, noting that n-Space (Call of Duty: Black Ops) is prepping the title for launch alongside the Eurocom-developed Wii version in November.

Details on what can be expected from the handheld version remain under wraps. The Wii version will be a fairly direct translation of the highly acclaimed 1997 shooter, though it will also feature updated visuals, four-player split-screen multiplayer, and new game modes. GoldenEye 007 for the Wii will also include online multiplayer, a functionality its N64 cousin could not offer.

For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of the Wii version of GoldenEye 007.

    Im loving the flaming, but most people missed the point of my comment. My point was this:
    Nintendo are FANTASTIC at making innovative hardware. No disputing, and definitely more imaginative than Sony and Microsoft. S and MS are just jumping on the motion control bandwagon, I totally agree. I just feel nintendo have a poor track record for releasing completely new and refreshing software. They just keep rehashing the same stuff. The games aren't sequels, they're the same game with very few/weak excuses for new ideas. eg zelda, mario, metroid (Super Mario Bro's Wii being a PRIME example of a poor re-release) and now a remake of another game?

    Im not saying all their games are bad or anything, far from it. I just think a new idea should be on the cards, rather than remaking the same intellectual property over and over again.

    I really wish they would have just kept Pierce Brosnan's face. I don't like Craig... >_

    Just release a straight port for the DS, and the revamped version for the Wii. Seems pointless releasing a similar game for both consoles.

    Where did you get the "Nintendo" from? N-space is making this. >_>

    @lordbordom:

    Really? How many remakes has nintendo done over the years? Probably not as many as times Squeenix has remade FF and Dragon Quest in the last 10 years. The reason they are remaking the game is because they can't release it on the VC. You want something new go buy Mario Galaxy 2 and Sin and Punishment 2 and STFU.

    @bloodmist:

    Nintendo owns the GoldenEye game and asked Activision to remake it for them. They had alot to do with the creation of the original game. As Rare's oversears they rejected the game the first time Rare submitted it for publication. The asked for two things: 4 player multi and rumble pack support. The rest as they say is history.

    Just make it a straight port from the original and I'll be happy. I seen 64 titles work on the DS.

    You mean like Sony did with Playstation Move? Or Microsoft did with Kinect? And its called Intellectual property which has sequels - every company does it.

    @LordBodom

    Even if you weren't completely full of crap in every way imaginable, one would have to point out the obvious fact that Nintendo has absolutely nothing to do with the creation of this game whatsoever, they're not even publishing it, which is all they had to do with the original in the first place.

    Hey look... Nintendo are doing a re-make. Again. What a surprise.

    Until they do something that is actually new I refuse to buy another Nintendo product. They create innovative hardware and do nothing but produce rehashed versions of games and keep on flogging the same franchises. Do something new ninty.

    They can't put Pierce Brosnan in the game, because he owns the rights to his likeness and obviously he hasn't granted them the rights to use it. Who really cares anyway, it's a first person shooter 95% of the time you're not even going to notice

  • Moose_4

    @demonlord2008

    Agreed. Daniel Craig is my least favorite Bond, they shouldn't replace Pierce Brosnan, my second favorite, with him in a game based on a movie with Pierce Brosnan starring in it. Hopefully, this is the only negative tweak they've made to the game and it won't be big deal. I'm not sure if I'm going to get this on DS. I think the Wii version will be better and I don't even play on my DS anymore. I should sell my DS and save up for the 3DS.

    i love nintendo and i LOVE goldeneye.... still have the original cart along with my N64...and my snes... and my nes. i remember seeing it in Virgin Megastore whilst bunking off school and thinking 'this is the future!'.

    the thing i dont get thugh is why Nintendo are such pioneers of risky new hardware, yet still rely on franchises from years gone by. Zelda, mario, Goldeneye, donkey kong, megaman.... i neednt carry on.

    i know all of the iterations are top class games but i've been playing ninty games since mario bros on the NES..... i think i speak for every fan.... keep releasing the classics, but throw away your comfort blanket and give us something new..... we'll support you! you've got the cash for such risks... DO IT!

    What they should have done was bring back Timothy Dalton. Before you start thumbs downing me let me explain, after License to Kill Dalton was set for the next Bond film unfortunately Goldeneye didn't come till 1995 so Dalton opted out of his contract. I like all Bonds including Craig, but Dalton is my favorite. Anyways hopefully this will be a decent game!

    Now I'm going to have 3 Goldeneyes in my house :\. Shouldn't they put this on the 3DS instead? (It would increase the game lineup for it)

    Pierce Brosnan is.

    I just don’t think this game is going to be any good in anyway other than nostalgia, things have moved on so much since the original release. If you want the game so bad dig out your old N64 it will be identical besides a few graphical differences.

    I'm fine with them using Daniel Craig as the bond in this game, I think he's a much better bond than Pierce Brosnan anyways. Besides if i wanna play as Pierce i'll just pop in the old Goldeneye into my 64, its not that difficult.

  • Jedilink109

    Posted Jul 30, 2010 8:25 am PT

    Why are people getting all ticked off that Craig is James Bond? Bond is Bond. If he were originally in the Goldeneye film you would complain if they put Pierce Brosnan in there instead. James Bond is timeless and preferences over one guy or another is lame when it's only a game. Just enjoy the fact that Goldeneye is coming to Wii. I know I sure am. Just because Craig will be in it doesn't mean that it'll have a completely different story or something.

    Lets just bring the original Golden Eye to Xbox Live, PSN, and Wii downloadable content, and then have Activison create servers, so we can all play against each other. Come on Activison you gotta do this!!!!!!

    Hmm, wonder if this is the REAL goldeneye from the n64, or just another COD controlled glitzy rehash like the Wii version. I'd rather take Rare's legally blocked OFFICIAL remake over Eurocom's tripe cash in anyday. They did also make Nightfire and QOS, remember...

  • rtehrani

    Posted Jul 30, 2010 6:47 am PT

    i thought this was gonna be exactly goldeneye but only with updated visuals....this looks like a 75% remake. kinda disappointing, but i still got my n64 with goldeneye...ill stick to that.

    payne6705 the ds controls is awkward but it sure is more precise than the dual analog controls on the consoles, thus making aiming much better..lol

    awkward to me is trying to line up a quick head shot on someone in a dual analog shooter with out auto aim..lmaooooooooo

    James Bond is more than just one actor, I think it's a neat idea, but no one is going to force you to buy it if you don't like it.
