Need for Speed: Nitro advances to Nov. 3

EA Montreal's Wii, DS installment in rebooted racing franchise goes gold as release date shifts forward two weeks; setlist includes Crystal Method, Lady Sov, k-os.

With the NPD Group's September US retail sales recap delayed to later today, it has yet to be seen how well Need for Speed: Shift for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, and PC performed off the line. However, early prognostication indicates that Electronic Arts' reboot of its long-running racing franchise may have sputtered, with Wedbush Morgan Securities' Michael Pachter projecting a lackluster 250,000 units during the month.

With a PC-only massively multiplayer installment on track for this winter, EA is now gearing up for the launch of Need for Speed: Nitro on the Wii and DS. Today, the publisher confirmed that Nitro has gone gold and shipped to manufacturers in advance of the game's November 3 launch in North America and November 6 debut in Europe. Previously, the game had carried a November 17 release date. With Slightly Mad Studios on Shift, EA Montreal handled development duties on Nitro.

More casual than its positively reviewed Need for Speed: Shift, the Wii- and DS-exclusive Nitro features cars with a stylized appearance and controls friendly to rookies and experts alike. Power-ups are strewn across the raceway and a new graffiti system will factor into overall racing performance. On the Wii, Need for Speed: Nitro can be played with the Wii Remote, nunchuk, racing wheel, or the GameCube Controller.

Along with announcing the game's completion, EA also revealed the game's 26-song soundtrack. As has become customary, EA's musical taste spans a variety of genres and pulls from a number of countries. Notable artists include Crystal Method, Lady Sovereign, k-os, and Placebo.

Sounds like Shift Lite, and Shift isn't even that good. The more arcade feel could be a bonus though.

Now I want to see need for speed world online, that's the last of the "three way split" to show its face.

There are only two good soundtracks: All the Cash (Evil 9) and What now (Alex Metric) ...
    That´s sad :-(

Bloody Beetroots by far the best track on the list, but a pretty strong list all around complete with teen angsty bands like Taking Back Sunday

    Lookin good

Never heard of any of those bands but Rise Against and TBS >_>
But EA soundtracks are usually pretty good
Not getting this game though but I hope it'll be as good as Shift was

I don't expect any less from Need for Speed, the soundtrack looks solid enough, pretty much what the series is used to deliver. The game on the other hand, I'm not sure.
