360 World in Conflict cools until '08

Console owners will have to wait until next year to fight Sierra's alternate-history WWIII RTS.

In mid-June, Sierra Entertainment revealed it was bringing World in Conflict to the Xbox 360. A week later, the Vivendi Games division revealed that the console version of the real-time strategy game would ship during 2007's jam-packed fall release schedule.

Today, however, Sierra literally called back the bombers. Less than two weeks after the PC version of World in Conflict received rapt reviews, the 360 edition has now been pushed back until early next year. Weighing in at a terse 140 words, the delay announcement gave no reason for the game's postponement.

World in Conflict is set during an alternate history that portrays a fictional Third World War. Rather than sit passively by as its Warsaw Pact vassal states revolt in 1989, the Soviet Union invades Western Europe, which touches off a global conflict replete with limited tactical nuclear warfare. The game's story was written by Larry Bond, coauthor of the Tom Clancy novel Red Storm Rising, which also chronicles a fictional US-USSR war. A demo of the PC version of the game is available via GameSpot Downloads.

They haven't released any gameplay videos for End War yet, so it is impossible to make any comparisons. World in Conflict is easily the most gamepad friendly RTS game I've ever played.

kind of stupid to put it back on sierra's half mainly because it just may be in competition with Tom Clancy's End War which looks alot better i was gonna get this and wait for End War but now i probably wont get this.

I already have 2 games preordered for November release so it's kinda a relief, I won't be burning a hole in my wallet next month. As long as the game don't get cancelled I'll be cool about it.

Why would anyone want to release a new 360 game this Christmas Season? The Docket is already packed with a series of prime time titles, if they actually want to sell copies of the game its best they wait till March 08.

theres no way in heck id buy wic for 360, even though i own one. this is probably because i also have a pc with a 8800 gtx, which a 360 has no chance of competing with

I have it on the PC. It will be worth the wait and will be awesome on XBL. I'll probably pick it up for the 360 when it comes out because I should be able to do to pretty well. 360 has plenty of great games and Halo3 has certainly taken away from my WIC playtime.

i wish i was a pc owner now, but oh well, i can wait.

honestly like other people are thinking, i am also thinking because of the big releases for the holiday season, they are pushing it back on purpose so that consumers won't overlook the title

Damn, I was so looking forward to plaing this game. At least it gives me time to play all the other great games that have come out and that are coming out. I'd list them all but it would be way to many.

It's likely just to give the game a chance at retail. The 360 has a number of big releases this year which will drown out competitors, even those from other genres.

The move is logical, allowing them to work on making sure it plays well on a console while hitting a much less crowded window.

the 360 got the shaft just like the pc with bioshock, what irony.

Well can't say I'm a bit disappointed but If they need extra time I'd rather them take it than rush and end up with a bad game.

I just don't get why MS releases some great add-ons like the AC6 flight stick and throttle, force feedback wheel, that little typing gizmo, yet refuses to allow people to use a keyboard and mouse for games. I could understand restricting FPS use of a keyboard and mouse, but why can't we use that setup for RTS games? I hope they rethink this and put out patches to make USB keyboard and mouse controls for RTS games, like Halo Wars. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've played both LOTR:BFME and C&C: Tiberium Wars on the 360 and loved them both. I am so looking forward to this game too. Controls are a matter of preference, if you don't like controls for consoles then don't play them. At least its there for the people who are able and enjoy playing these games on consoles.

Wasnt gonna get it, but its good that the 360 is getting more rts'. And its good sierra delays it, they're following the EA model of releasing their rts' at a time when not many other games are coming out, smart move.

This is a great move, I was going to pass on this title because of the already full line up for 07. This is a great game on pc, and I passed it up because my pc isn't capable of running it to it's full extent, and I'm glad to have the 360 option.
