360 entering World of Conflict

Vivendi and Massive's WWIII RTS is marching onto Microsoft's console.

Though real-time strategy games still remain largely confined to the PC, the Xbox 360's RTS roster is growing. In addition to the already released Battle for Middle-earth II and Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars, nearly a half-dozen RTS games are coming to the console, including Halo Wars, Universe at War: Earth Assault, and Tom Clancy's EndWar.

Today, Sierra confirmed to GameSpot that it is bringing World in Conflict to Microsoft's console. As of press time, the division of Vivendi Games had not revealed a release date for the 360 edition of the RTS, the PC version of which will ship in September.

World in Conflict is set in an alternate timeline where the Soviet Union and United States fight World War III during the early 21st century. It is the latest game from Massive Entertainment, developer of the acclaimed Ground Control series. Check out GameSpot's previous coverage of the PC edition for gameplay details.

I think it's great that so many RTS games are finally coming out for consoles (or rather, the 360 so far. I hope some get ported to Wii though. It's got the perfect control for an RTS) because I've never had a good computer. What I may have always missed out on I may now be able to play. And even if I had a good computer, I'm a console gamer at heart so I may even pick the 360 version over a PC version. :D And yes I know that's blasphemy for some of you.

Cool. I'll try it on the 360, and if I like it, I'll buy it for the PC.

If they can pull this off, it should be a great addition to the 360 line up. Currently on the PC front, this game is shaping up to be a must have. The beta so far has proved to be pretty amazing.

Please, just keep the frame rate steady.....C&C3 had nasty frame rate problems (usually when the AI's controlling a lot of units).

Controls will be sub par compared to PC (obviously) but I will still probably be picking this up because my PC is complete crap and this games is going to be awsome.

I am still getting the PC version. My rig handles it on max settings just fine. The 360 version will likely be a downgrade like CNC3 and LOTR was and yet they still had their FPS issues.

Wow! The 360 game line up just keeps getting better and better! I am also happy RTS games have found a 2nd home on the 360 but there true home will always be PC!!! I got command and conquer 3 for 360 and its great, plus the controls are simple! So as long as the RTS games keep porting over like command and conquer 3 i be happy!

"US vs. USSR? I just can't imagine that happening any more. I know it's an alternative timeline and all, but even so I'm having suspension of disbelief issues. Now EndWar on the other hand..." Well so you find it more believable that the EU would somehow muster a military force similar to the USA in power in less than 20 years than a war between to near equal powers that actually existed? The US vs USSR is much more believable than France, Germany, UK actually uniting and putting up enough money and having the political will to form some sort of unified military force able to fight on the same level as Americas in such a short period of time. mk

After playing BFME2, Starcraft, and CnC3 on their respective consoles as opposed to the PC versions, I can honestly say that RTS games should stick to the PC. Sure, they're great for people who have crappy computers, but other than that...no thanks.

kaziechameleon

wow and the console version of the game will undoubtably be limited like C&C and BFME2 and STAR CRAFT and every RTS before it to hit the consoles. atleast it lets people know what is happening on the pc.

Not bad considering how successfully CnC3 was on bringing RTS back to the consoles. Just fix the damn controls. Also I am PC gamer so i have to say PC FTW.

Woa the screens of the PC version are amazing. I love C&C3 and BFME2, and I have a great feeling that I'm going to love this game too. Thanks to all you who provided information about the beta, your comments have me even more excited to play this!

I was planning on buying this for PC, but if this game turns out to be as good for the 360 as C&C3 was, then buying this for 360 is a no brainer!

"Very, VERY unexpected suprise. I am extremely happy that RTS is coming back to its original platform, the console." You're joking, right? There were RTS before Herzog Zwei.

Thank God, I downloaded the beta and my computer could barely run it, not playable at all. Guess I dont have to worry, since it's coming to the 360. :D

WiC will certainly make a fantastic console game. The controls are super easy, and there's no complex troop management. The transition should be real seamless, and I'm sure that console gamers will enjoy it greatly. This is very good news.

Hell Yeah, This game is awesome...if anyone has a decent PC then you should try the beta for it. People keep saying that the 360 is a FPS console, but now they have the best FPS and best RTS games on the market!!

I'm glad about this, I love good RTS and my laptop wouldn't have been able to handle this I had C&C3 on my 360 controls were easy for me but didn't like it that much hopefully this will be different. I much prefer LOTR:BFME2.
