Kane & Lynch breaking and entering Nov. 20

Eidos to bring third-person action game to Xbox 360, PS3, and PC shelves on same day as Mass Effect, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

Even with big-name releases like Grand Theft Auto IV, Metal Gear Solid 4, Mercenaries 2, Frontlines: Fuel of War, The Club, and Splinter Cell: Conviction being delayed until early next year, this year's holiday season is still jam-packed with big-name releases vying for gamers' hard-earned dollars. For evidence of that, one need only look at today's announcement from Eidos, which nailed down a North American release date of November 20 for its Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC third-person action shooter, Kane & Lynch.

If that date sounds familiar, it's because it's also the specific release date for a few other anticipated games. Microsoft is releasing BioWare's Mass Effect for the Xbox 360 on November 20, while Sony has Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for the PS3 set to drop the same day. And while Rock Band's release date isn't official, GameStop is guaranteeing customers who preorder that it will have the game to them "on the street date of Tuesday, November 20." And then there's Assassin's Creed, Unreal Tournament III, and a number of other titles floating around with vague "November" release windows.

Despite the competition, Kane & Lynch may still garner a good bit of attention. The game comes from IO Interactive, developers of the cult classic Freedom Fighters and the Hitman series of games. And like the latter franchise, Kane & Lynch has piqued the interest of Hollywood, as Lionsgate reportedly purchased the rights to turn the game into a feature film.

Eidos has also confirmed that the game will be released in the UK and Europe on November 23.

    This my 2nd most wanted game of 2007 1 is mass effect, but hell i just cant say no to this extremely stylish and cool looking game... A more action filled Hitman with Co-op. (drooling Homer simpson style)

    Althogh ive been waiting for mass effect forever and ever. Kane and Lynch looks so stylish, slick and awesome that I must say I'm looking forward to this game alot more than mass effect now, if it got systemlink... but it has to right? This developer knows it all about style, substance and art in its finest forms.

    I want to see more game action from this. It sounds great... but like so many below said, I'm getting at least two other games between now and Christmas... will this be the third or fourth? Or will I go bankrupt after I buy rockband!?!?!

    Thank god PS3 didn't come out when I was in high school, I'd be so freaky broke or having "Wii elbow".

    This game looks nice, but it just isn't going to sell very well due to the sheer amount of high-profile games being released that month. It's a shame, really.

    Mass Effect is amazing!!!

    I'm playing Halo 3 right now, and I can't wait to see the ending, and then go back and collect the Skulls!!!...but, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thinking of how awesome Mass Effect is.

    Mass Effect, Halo 3, Bioshock...those are all awesome!!!

    I can't wait to play Mass Effect with the revolutionary communication system...and the incredible graphics!

    This is going to be the greatest game. I just read the new Hardcroe Gamer (the game is going to ROCK, it got a Game Informer cover and a Hardcore Gamer cover) article and it looks BAD AZZ. Fans of the I/O property love the intense story line. What other dev studio do you know have 2 movies in the pipeline (Hitman 11/21 and now Kane and Lynch, mostly with a powerhouse like 20th Century FOX and Lionsgate)? I'm going to pick up Mass Effect regardless but I think everyone is not giving Kane and Lynch the credit they deserve. I can't wait for their marketing, does anyone remember the Hitman Blood Money stuff?

    The game looks great. K&L might do well considering a lot of the competition has gotten pushed back to next year. Hopefully this one won't be swept under the rug in the holiday madness.

    I don't have a PS3 but my brother does and I will say that Uncharted looks to be a PS3 seller. I will be grabbing Mass Effect for sure and possibly Kane and Lynch.

    Big day then, eh? I'd get my hands on Kane & Lynch no matter what when it comes out in Oz...

    They've purchased rights to make the movie?! OMFG, I'd rather hope it doesn't turn into a s***sucker like most video game adaptations..

    If they put on a crappy director for the movie, i'd say "I can could do better than that", because i'm a psyched fan of this game!

    Given the developer's track record, I'm really looking forward to Kayne and Lynch-though my first priority now that I have Halo 3 is to pick up Assassin's Creed. Hope all these games mentioned are as awesome as they've been made out to be...

    Kane & Lynch can't compete with Rock Band and Mass Effect regardless of release date... Release the game before Christmas and let word of mouth sell the game. As for me, Kane & Lynch is the only game to be released in November that I want.

    Wow, November 20 could be a pretty expensive day. I'd like a Kane & Lynch demo, though, before I decide. I loved the trailers with their R-Rated language. Shows some balls, I think.

    Ugh, four games on the same day. Mass Effect is a given at this point, but I'll have to see how the other three fare in the reviews. Rock Bands track list is still mostly unknown so I'm still on the fence with it. Kane and Lynch is looking batter than I expected, and Drake looks great but has the stink of Sony Exclusive on it. So far the Sony Exclusive label has meant mediocre but pretty game.

    As for Crysis, it's not really in competition since only about twelve people will be able to play it on their PC.

    They should have delayed it until early 2008. I really want this game, but there's just too much other good stuff in November. Not a smart idea, Eidos.
