Days after Ubisoft announced that Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway has taken a detour to 2008, another major game's delay is now official. Pandemic reps have confirmed to GameSpot that Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is cooling its jets until the first quarter of next year. The confirmation comes three weeks after the delay was first rumored.
"We're not adding new features or content at this point," said the Pandemic official. "We are using the extra time to make sure that the game is 100 percent polished and truly shines as the best next-gen, open-world experience on any gaming system to date."
In development for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and PC, Mercenaries 2 is a follow-up to 2005's critically acclaimed Xbox and PS2 shooter Mercenaries. Like its forebear, the game will feature an open-world war zone where players may roam freely, sowing destruction as a paramilitary gun-for-hire. Set in a fictional near-future Venezuelan civil war, the game drew critical raves when it was shown at E3, as can been seen in GameSpot's most recent preview.

3months plus for "polishing"!!! Talk about perfectionism or ... maybe misleading information. Now that these guys belong to EA, they better make the promised due dates!

Same old tired PS3 talking points...potential this and wait until that. Simply a problem of an exotic, unproven and difficult to utilize tech with a dev kit so crippled by IP protection paranoia that it limits quality and delays releases for software. These platform specific delays are damaging to gaming as a whole, and eventually, all devs will go the way of Valve or EA and limit this problem to its source. By the time that software is able to finally take advantage of the hardware and enough quality titles are released to move the currently small install base and tiny attach rate upward, MS and Nintendo will be moving on to their next generations.
dutch777 just sais he likes his console and he is getting minuses! wow how many fanboys are here. the ps3 is good, for starters it will soon (well is starting to) be creating graphically superior games as it is more powerfull and uses blue ray. but the 360 is also good as it is cheaper and at the moment has more games. I am not a fanboy thats my opinion I like all the consoles but In my opinion soon ps3 games will graphically look superior, it has the potential too thats fact. let people have their own opinions, if you dont like them its your problem.
Can we please stop calling it next-gen? It's no longer next-gen, it's current-gen.
The longer you wait for a game "hopefully" the more impessed and satisfied you'll be that it took its time. eg gta4 had better blow me away.

All i can is disappointing !!!!! Why do games keep on getting moved back for the PS3.? The PS3 console still ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!, just give us more games man.

Well this is just another title added to a pretty long list of games that got pushed to 08.
It's OK, If it was now, this would be shadowed by Halo 3. When Halo 3's heat slow down, this title would be great.
That is really sad - but it does free up my wallet for other games ....
It's a bummer that this game got pushed back cause I was really looking forward to this, but It's also a good thing. With games being 60 bucks a pop, I prefer that the high profile games be more spread out. It gives more time to save up for 'em!
Of course it is bad, but on the other hand it will hopefully be finished then, unlike Black & White 2 that was such a let down
I can take this delay. I REALLY enjoyed the first Mercenaries and I want to see this one be just as good, if not better, on the next generation platforms.
I agree with XOXIXO. With all the games being obviously rushed to launch lately, barely feature-complete (if that) news like this just warms my heart.
When I read that a developer wants to delay the game to polish it, it just makes me want to buy it more, cause i know it's gonna be better

Polishing it up is fine with me. This looked in danger of getting lost in the Christmas game avalanche.
Hey, I wish more studio's had the cash behind them to delay releases until they are satisfied with the game. I guess Bono has his uses after all.
Some people get upset with delays. I don't care. I really want the game ready rather than quickly. We would have more AAA titles if the powers that be would leave the programmers to their job and not bug them to speed it up. Also every time a programmer goes to E3 or TGS they have to stop what they are doing and get a demo ready which slows down the process. So please take your time I have more than enough games to hold me over until your ready.
"Polishing" huh? More like our play testers think it sucks or our playstesters have found major game breaking bugs or this is yet another game where the only thing we did was improve the textures and didnt bother making the game any deeper.
if they really r delaying it for polishing purposes, then its fine by me.. i dont want to buy a piece of crap that lags and freezes all over the place X_X

This is another GTAIV situation with the PS3 port underperforming. The Merc dev went the same route as T2 and just delayed everything. I'm sure more devs would be going the same route as the devs for Stranglehold and Orange box (delay the offending PS3 version only) or the EA method (just ship whatever you have...cant sell enough copies to matter by simple mathematics), if it werent for a little known title called Halo 3 (if you get my meaning).
Oh well. At least we still have Halo 3 and COD4.
