An improvement on the first game - with some minor disappointments.

User Rating: 8 | N3II: Ninety-Nine Nights X360
If you liked the first Ninety-Nine Nights - there is no doubt that you will like this one. The hundreds of enemies on screen, big orb attacks (more on this later), intertwining story lines, and new ways of upgrading and skill sets. I think the Gamespot reviewers rated this title a little too low and they obviously had their reasons. However, I disagree with the low 3.5 score. If you have played the first game, you know the epicness of the game. No other hack-n-slash can put that many enemies on the screen and still keep it going at a nice pace - with barely no chopping/lagging screens. The new magic abilities and melee skills provide a nice change to the combat and you'll always want to explore to find the hidden abilities and skills. The online coop is a excellent addition - one that was sorely missed in the first game. You can do a survival mode, maze mode, race mode, and escort mode. I have only played the survival mode and maze mode so far and I enjoyed them very much. Yes it is hack-n-slash, but it definitely gets your adrenaline pumping when playing with a buddy online.

The one thing that I do miss that was in the first game was the two different types of orb attacks. There are two different types of orb attacks in N3II, yet they don't match the intensity of the first game. One type of attack creates a new set of weapons and you can use them for only so many hits, and then it explodes killing surrounding enemies. If you hold RB, and swivel the left thumb stick, it creates a special orb attack explosion that is pretty powerful. These orb attacks are very similar with every character - it would have been nice if they were more unique. In the first game, you could save up Soul Points (from killing enemies) and do an orb attack with that - anyone you killed with that first attack would fill a secondary meter of different color soul points, which if you filled that up would be a massive unique orb attack which was always really fun to use. That would have been nice if the developers kept that.

Even though there are some things missing, the developers made improvements with the combat abilities, skill sets, magical abilities, upgrading equipment, and leveling up. So in that respect, they excelled. Overall it is a quality game, and I don't think it deserves a 3.5 at all. It's a great hack-n-slash that is a lot of fun to play online and off.
