Today, The Tournament Begins... Again!

User Rating: 4.5 | Mortal Kombat II: Kyuukyoku Shinken GB
This is probably the best mortal kombat on a handheld to the present day. The gameboy still only has two buttons making controlling the fighters a bit awkward, but the controls are a little more responsive this time. You can actually perform some of the famous finishing moves, which greatly improves the overall experience. The fighters are Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Reptile, Shang Tsung, Mileena, Kitana and Jax. There are also two secret characters, but they are not interesting. Shao Kahn is the boss character, the four-armed Kintaro is absent, along with many others from the mk 2-cast. There are still only three different backgrounds, namely the kombat tomb, Goro's lair and the pit 2. Mortal Kombat 2 on the gameboy is probably the best mortal kombat on a handheld (though i must admit i never played it on the gamegear.) but even so it is kind of a bore.
