Playing this game for the first time after not thinking much of it since its release, I was impressed. I had researched MK:A a long time before its release and had then decided not to purchase it because, quite frankly, it sounded like a gimmicky version of its predecessors. The first thing I instinctively did was go straight to the Kreate-A-Fighter mode where I customized a friends character. That was what hit me as exciting, being able to create your own custom character, with his or her own styles and abilities, and taking it online to fight others. So after messing around with some of the creator options, I hit up the Konquest mode. Man, this game was just getting better as I explored it. The story mode is nothing like the previous Deception, but more like Shaolin Monks, which is a good thing. You're able to explore a large world with some very minor puzzles, collecting items such as money, weapons and outfitting for customization, and directors art, etc. The fighting was interesting and fun, no single segment was too difficult to beat on your first try, which keeps the game fresh and enjoyable, no trial-and-error gameplay. The fights were very similar to the other MK games, which I liked because if they were to change the core fighting, what would the point of the game be? MK is famous for its deadly Fatalities and such, but I enjoyed just stringing together cool combos and moves in -game and against my friends in 2-player fights. There happened to be 4 of us playing at the time so we even came up with a tournament in which we would have somewhat of a ladder and the champion from the last victory would have to defend against the rising opponents, it was actually really fun and exciting, great for multiple people to play. Anyway, it's just too bad the Konquest still doesn't let us take our Kreated characters through the storyline, because that would make this game a must-buy. Until then, if you're looking for a great fighting game or if you want to continue playing the MK series, which I suggest you do, check out Armageddon. If you've played MK before like myself and want to get back into it, give this one a try.
