Replaying the game is a part of the game

User Rating: 9.1 | Monster Farm 2 (PlayStation the Best) PS
After the creative Monster Rancher, Tecmo released its next sequel, Monster Rancher 2 which has a lot of graphic and gameplay improvement. Many people find it their favorite Monster Rancher even though Monster Rancher 3 and 4 has already been release on PS2. The special thing about monster rancher is that it hasn’t lost any of its original Monster Rancher elements. The game is basically about raising and training monsters. After the monster became mature and strong, your monster can participate in various tournament appropriate to its ability.

Gameplay (9/10)

A lot of MR2’s elements are inherited from MR; but MR2 has a lot of improvement. The game starts out allowing you to pick your first monster. You can either buy monsters from the market or release a monster from any CD you have at your home (pretty cool huh?). Still, there are only limited selections of monster you can have, but it doesn’t mean they are weaker than the monsters you can obtained later. It all depends on how you raise and train your monster. A monster must be given food every month, trained everyday, and given rest. Depending on how you treat your monster, the monster may turn out being spoiled too much, being lazy, or it may even run away. Sometimes they can even ask you to play a game with them. As more training is done, your monster may acquire more battle techniques. And as your monster grows, you will always try to aim for higher rank tournaments. Finally, as human age, so do monsters. Every monster has a certain life span. I found out that some people felt sad when their monster died lol.

Graphic (9/10)

I think MR2 has some good graphics. The ranch where you train your monster looks really nice. Also, every monster is pretty detailed – color wise and pixel wise. The animations when battling other monster are also good. Even training (which in MR is displayed in 2D) is displayed in a nice 3D. The good graphics really add the experience value you gain while playing MR2.

Sound (9/10)

MR2 got nice music themes either at training time or at battle time. Every sound effect also matches the effect that occurs very neatly.

Replayablility (9/10)

So you play MR2, you succeeded in bringing your monster to a decent middle rank. That’s it? There is no way that you are going to stop there. Playing MR2 is about replaying the game. In every cycle you will try different monsters, raising methods, battles, opponents, and not forgot to mention that you will face different obstacles. The more monster you raised, the closer you are to master the art of MR2.
