My usual Good vs. Bad review (MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS! You have been warned)

User Rating: 8.5 | Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G PSP
Monster Hunter is not just one of the BEST RPG's, but it is also one of the best games of all time. It comes second on my top 5 for favorite games series' but with every game comes goods and/or bads. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite will be the first of all Monster Hunter games I have done a review on, showing that even though it is a part of my favorite series, there are Ups and Downs. But what are they? Read on to find out!:

The Good:
~ It's still Monster Hunter, the fact that it is a part of the series all together will automatically draw a fan back to play.

~ The game is great graphically, especially for a PSP title. Now I'm not saying that PSP games have bad graphics or anything like that but a majority can NOT compare to the graphic design in Monster Hunter.

~ Along with the visuals are the sound, which is great as well. The player has an option to play the game normally (stereo), in Boost Mode (which seems to raise the sound level a bit higher than usual and more clear/high def) and Dolby Pro Logic II (which as most of you know is surround sound).

~ Like all Monster Hunter games, there is a LOT of an addicting replay value. There are people (including myself) who have over 500 hours in this game and still don't get tired of it, and I can't blame them

~ Have a character from Freedom 2 that you don't want to lose? You can transfer it, and all the stuff it has with you into Freedom Unite!

~ There are over 1000 Armors and Weapons which you make from gathering monster parts and materials found within the areas you are put in.

~ There are over 10 maps (and alternate versions of those maps) within the game giving the player more than just the average 5/6 areas for hunting.

~ You can play with up to 3 other people via Ad Hoc. You can also use Ad Hoc Party for the PS3 or Xlink Kai to play with people around the world!

~ If you don't quite have any of the options above, than the new Felyne Fighter (Cat Comrade) system is a great add on to the game, making the game more fun to play when you are alone and a lot less of a hassle.

The Bad:
~ Unless you have beaten all the quests in the village, and finished the Akantor urgent in the Gathering Hall, there really isn't much new material... At all... Every bit of the new stuff is pretty much for people who have basically beaten/finished Monster Hunter Freedom 2.

~ Though a LOT of bugs have been fixed from Freedom 2, there are still very few bugs such as invisible walls and glitchy monster movement. Luckily these are rare to see and find.

Overall, this game is definitely a buy. Super fun and will last you a super long time, longer than nearly any portable game on the market!
8.5/10!
