Almost as epic as Super Metroid...almost.

Metroid: Other M was a highly anticipated title for me to say the least...and was in many ways well worth the wait.
The weakest part of this installment of the Metroid franchise however was what they (Team Ninja) seemed to focus on the most; the back story of Samus.
In every Metroid installment, Samus is a "lone bounty hunter"...the story for the most part unfolds as you progress throughout each game. But in Other M, they beat the weak story and even weaker characters over your head...and unless you've beaten the game already, you are unable to skip the drawn out video sequences.
The relationship between Samus and Adam is extremely flimsy...a once strong female lead comes off as submissive and afraid to use her own judgment without the approval of Adam.
She gives the impression of a battered housewife...a night and day difference from the once admirable female role model.

Another weakness I found was the amount of hand holding given to the player...a flashing blue dot on the map revealing missile expansions and energy tanks removes all need to perform any mindful exploration.
Don't know where to go? Look at the map.
Want more missile expansions or energy tanks? Look at the map.
Balance in the game in general was decent, however, to obtain 100%, you have to obtain power bombs after beating the game...ie; be granted the authorization to use power bombs...only then can you find every last missile expansion...but by that point, you no longer need them, so what is the point in withholding them that long?

Voice acting was terrible and emotionless...characters were weak...but the game play was epic.
If Team Ninja would stop haphazardly throwing together George Lucas like love stories, I would love to see them pump out another 2-D 3-D half breed on the Wii.
The Wii sure could use another title worth playing...and then some.
