A port that's less than perfect, includes the new Metal Slug 6, which sucks, also, you better have a spare GC controller

User Rating: 6.5 | Metal Slug Anthology WII
I love the Metal Slug franchise, so what's with the 6.5 score? Let me explain, this is a collection of previous Metal Slug games sans Metal Slug Advance and other handheld versions, also included is the new Metal Slug 6. The first 5 games and Metal Slug X, sort of a remake of the second game, are excellent, well, the first game is merely okay, but lays the groundwork for the series, fast paced action and 2D goodness. As far as a favorite of mine goes, it's a toss up between 3 and 4, but I thnk 4 edges it out just barely. These are also the games I own on the original XBOX, and I recently replayed them on that console, so I didn't play them in this collection, so I can't say if they are different technically, though I assume they have the same annoying loading screens as the first five games and X in the collection, also Metal Slug 2 has severe framerate issues. The other problem is the controller, motion controls are laughable, I ended up holding the Wiimote as a NES controller, unfortunately the 1 and 2 buttons are so close to one another, I accidentally self destructed many of the vehicles in the game when I tried to jump and shoot and pressed both buttons, also I would at rare occasions push the B button which would also self destruct the darn thing. You should definitely go for the Gamecube controller if you own one, the thing is, I HAVE a classic controller, why the heck can't I use that one? Unbelievable. Actually, if you can, skip the Wii version and get the PS2 version for optimal controls.

I was looking forward to Metal Slug 6, too bad it's easily the worst game in the series, not only that, it sucks. The game promises the most intense barrage of enemies ever, but that's not what made the other games good, some earlie games bordered on overkill with the amount of enemies and gunfire coming your way. MS6 is beyond overkill, and actually it becomes boring, the boss battles, highlights of the series, here, they stink, they take forever to kill, you tire from them long, long before they end, also they have really cheap attacks. The barrage of enemies sometimes seem endless and it's such tedium, the game almost encourages you to kill yourself on purpose to recieve new grenades and a machine gun to speed things up. I was very disappointed with Metal Slug 6, but the other games are excellent, I would've enjoyed them way more if they allowed me to use the classic controller, more than that, framerate issues and loading screens slow things down, which is fatal in games such as these. Fans of the franchise should check it out anyway, but rather the PS2 version.
