Fun, Fun, Fun!

User Rating: 9.2 | Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction PS2
I'm very lucky to have discovered and bought Mercinaries. This was not a very well known game but was one of the best in 2005. It has explosive action that is sure to satisfy anyone looking for some destruction.

Gameplay-The gameplay is the best part of this game. There are about 14 weapons to choose from and they each play differently. However, you won't be using the ones that shoot bullets as much as the ones that shoot grenades or rockets. You also have 16 airstrikes to choose from which are one of the things that set this game apart. You can call in an airstrike (for a price) on anything and it will probably blow it to pieces. There are a lot of vehicles too. The best part of the vehicles is blowing them up though. There are two, giant environments in the game. There are four factions in each environment that you can get jobs from. These range from stealing a truck to assasinating someone. Most of these missions are fun except for a couple which are really frustrating. That pretty much sums up the gameplay.

Graphics- The graphics are alright in this game. Although, you can't really expect much from a game that has as big as environments as this does. The environments are kind of dull and boxy. The civilians also look pretty mediocre. Your Character models are very well done though. Also the environment is very destructible and interactive. Actually though, this has the best fire i've ever seen on a PS2 game.

Sound-This game has kind of annoying music but it does help the mood of the war torn North Korea. Gun noises are done perfectly. So are explosions. The Voice acting isn't the greatest though.

Value-This game will probably entertain you for 2 playthroughs. Each one lasts about 15 hours. You'll have a lot of fun doing them but eventually it will get dull. There aren't many extras except for collecting blueprints and destroying statues.

Mercinaries should be played by just about anyone. It is one of the most fun games on the PS2 but might not be a buy. It depends on who you are.
