It's funny to see Gamespot's score for this game today.

User Rating: 10 | MDK PC
Talking about low scores, I have to thank Mafia 2 - probably my biggest disappointment in gaming ever - that I tried MDK. After Mafia 2 I felt I needed some 'fresh air' and set up an oldschool pc with 3dfx voodoo for older games. I'm really glad I missed MDK in 1997 because 1997 was already full of great games like Carmageddon, Shadow Warrior and Fallout, while today doesn't bring anything of interest to me.

MDK may have been the first game where I enjoyed arcade shooting and platform jumping, but most of all I enjoyed the surrealism of everything, the atmosphere and the background scenery - very often it reminded me of the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. If only Stanley Kubrick had used (the right) drugs while making his movie..

The only thing I want to add is that, for me, replaying this game was even more fun that playing it for the first time because there was lots of trial and error the first time around. And I won't be surprised if I replay it again and again. Rather play old gems than new mediocrities with high production value, where 90% of the time was spent making fancy graphics. I can get fancy graphics by looking out my window, give us MDK likes!
