User Rating: 8 | Mario vs. Donkey Kong GBA
Mario vs. Donkey Kong starts off with Donkey Kong watching tv. He's flipping through the channels and happens to catch an ad for a new mini Mario, which is a small toy replica of Mario. It's got the twist crank on the back and everything. DK is shown with hearts in his eyes. He then rushes to the toy store to pick one up, but these mini Mario's are like the Tickle Me Elmo of the mushroom kingdom. The store is completely sold out. DK's pretty frustrated, because he really wants that toy. Across the way is the factory that makes the very same toy, and is being run by the Toads. Yeah. Maybe they can spend a little extra money and get some security. Anyway, DK breaks in and steals all the mini Marios, then makes a run for it. But Mario himself is in the vicinity, sees what DK's doing, and goes after him to get the toys back. Don't worry kids, DK's not bad again. He just wanted some toys, that's all. The Gameplay pays tribute to the original Donkey Kong games. You play as Mario in a series of levels. First, you have to get a key and unlock the door. Next, you have to get a mini Mario that DK dropped. After getting six of these things, you have to spell the word toy, then guide the mini Marios to a toy chest. Then you fight Donkey Kong. The sound is good, but often very loud. You get to hear voiceovers for Mario, Donkey Kong and the Toads. Mario's voiceovers sound brand new, and some of them are entire sentences. He even says things in italian. As for DK's voiceovers, they sound like their recycled from Donkey Kong 64, but they do show DK's frustration pretty well. The Toads voiceovers are annoying and very loud. I could feel the sound vibrations on the back of the GBA. The graphics are some of the best on the GBA. Characters look very vibrant. The backgrounds are some good eye candy too. In closing, if you liked the old Donkey Kong games, you should check this one out.
