I was totally intrigued by the concept of Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. I wanted to find more about a game. I read a few previews before the release too find out more about this game. After reading previews and watching many videos, I finally got the basic gist of the game.
After the game was released, I checked a few sites for reviews, and instead of helping me, they confused me to a greater extent! There was only one thing left to do now, and that was buy the game.
I decided to take a risk, and bought the limited edition, and believe me, I was not disappointed! This game is just plain fun! You play as Trane. A 'toy' graffiti artist, who wants to get his name up, and wants to become the 'all city king' of the fictional city of New Radius, but the game changes the gears of the story, and it all becomes a quest for revenge. As soon as the game starts, you see Trane on a blimp, hanging on a ledge, thinking about how he got so notorius, and the game rolls into a flashback.
Enough about the story now. Just play the game to find more about it. The gameplay consists of fighting enemies, sneaking and climbing on to otherwise inaccessible places, tagging on them, and getting down to move on to the next spot. You also run into a few bosses, who are really fun to beat. Doing all this is real fun. The fight system is cool with awesome moves, and many insults, which are really really cool. You need to get used to the fighting system the first time you play, but once you have mastered it, you can easily take two to three CCK Silver Guards (the toughest enemies) down.
You get rep. fo each tag, and you unlock stuff using this rep. While tagging a certain area, you hold the R button down, press and hold X (normal speed) or Y (superfast speed (unlocked later in the game)), and move the right thumbstick in order to cover the complete tags. If you keep spraying at one spot repeatedly, you get drips, which look really horrible, and you get very little rep after the tag is over. The voice acting rocks, with celebrities and hip hop personalities like Talib Kweli.
However, there is no reason for one to play the whole game again, and the game has very low lasting appeal. There are a few audiovisual bugs, but that does not take the awesome experience away. Getting Up is an experience you should not miss. This game is awesome!
