Madden's gameplay is more realistic and does not allow 1st downs every play. In ESPN online I find that games are very high scoring and getting 1st downs is way too easy. Madden's defense options are incredible; the offense also has audibles and hot routes. Generally Madden's gameplay is more realistic, although ESPN's sound and graphics are better. Plus, running is realistic in Madden; people who tap faster in ESPN always have an advantage, even when running with a slow quarterback. Overall, Madden 2005 is better, but the two are so close that ESPN is the better value because of its price.
