Lost Planet relies too much on having flash, and rarely thinks to add some substance to the mix.

I love how video games and movies always copy each other nowadays (please note that this is a sarcastic sentence). You have the Transporter movies, which are full of video game-like action, and you have games like Lost Planet copying movies like Starship Troopers. Now, this isn't always a bad thing. It's just I think the two forms of entertainment need to be innovative on their own terms.

At first, Lost Planet seems innovative. The graphics and audio are great, and the frame rate is perfect. This is all still flash, though. A game needs substance, and Lost Planet has little of it.

The storyline, for instance, stinks. It's about of humankind leaving earth and settling on a distant planet. They live peacefully for a little while- until they are attacked by giant bug-like aliens that want them to leave. You play as a space marine, who gets trapped in his mech suit (smooth) outside in the blistering cold after a viscious attack. Your character has no rememberance of anything, except that the leader alien, Green Eye, has killed his father.

The graphics and audio, as I mentioned, are great. The character models and the backround graphics look awesome, and the explosions and gunshots sound extremely realistic.

While these points are good, you can't ignore the horrible storyline, poor script, and occasional boring gameplay.

Oh yeah, the gameplay, I forgot to get to that. OK, so at first it's great, but it soon becomes repetitive and monotonous, though the boss battles are great fun.

All in all, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition is a game with all the glitz and glam of brainless action movies, but the lack of substance really weighs it down.

Pros- The graphics and audio are excellent, solid frame rate, good boss fights

Cons- The storyline is one of the worst of all sci-fi games, the script is hollow and the gameplay gets boring
