The idea of play, create and share has been expanded like never before but has it been expanded too far?

User Rating: 9 | LittleBigPlanet 2 PS3
I absolutely loved LittleBigPlanet and spent so much time playing it because it was original, innovative, and had an insane amount of replay value. LittleBigPlanet, is LittleBigPlanet 2's b i t c h. LittleBigPlanet 2 has so much content including all the online levels from LittleBigPlanet and the DLC but what is really impressive is how vastly the game has been expanded. The story's more interesting, fun and diverse. Nothing ground breaking but, the voice acting added to the A.I. and the addition of animated cut-scenes definitely helped the experience become more immersive. Graphics have been upgraded and much of the games textures have much more detail and many of them glow or are animated in some unique way. Customization has been thoroughly upgraded so that now you can cover your home with saveable designs using stickers and decorations and the same applies now to your own customizable planets. Plus, your costumes are now much more interesting to look at with all the animated features and updated graphics put in. Even with all of these things kept in mind, they aren't what this game's actually about. This game's about you being able to create your own levels and sharing them online. This is also where many people can become overwhelmed by the game. The interface for finding levels has been much improved and the levels you will find are much more elaborate than LittleBigPlanet but, the creation of the levels themselves, is much harder than in LittleBigPlanet. To make a level that is truly unique and good, you'll need to know how to use the tools in this game. There're around 30 tutorial levels for the tools and even after going through them you'll still not fully understand many of them. A simple 2D space shooter can take many hours to complete and afterwards you still will find numerous problems with your design. And this is the major flaw in the game that takes away a full point from its rating. This game has become a little too complicated for people play. I still like it, but the tools for making levels are to complex since there're so many. The average player with probably dabble a bit in the create mode but not truly take full advantage of it due to its complexity. Thankfully, there are thousands of people constantly online making levels and out of the millions of levels there are thousands of good ones so you will still have fun and be occupied. As a side note: the load times vary depending on the complexity of each level so load times can vary from a few seconds to a few minutes. The experience is definitely felt differently by each person because some people won't like the game's laid back nature or that the game's main character is a sackboy so I recommend renting before buying.
