Potential, but doesn't live up to it

How many different candidates are we going to have for the position of "This is what Master of Orion 3 should have been"? Here's another one and, yes, this is what Master of Orion 3 should have been in THEORY.

In execution, though, this is utter crap. I can see it, I can really see where this would be a GREAT game. But, as many other reviews have noted, the control scheme is terrible, reaction latency is extremely high (i.e. you select ships and right-click to move them, then nothing happens for 10 to 15 seconds), it's very buggy, there are no loading indicators, etc. I actually thought the game had frozen when I first started it, since creating a new game takes you to a black screen. That's all, just black. For a few MINUTES. No explanation as to what's going on, nothing. Then I played for a while and really liked where it was going, but there is so much wrong even there. It's hard to get an overall strategic view (there's a "Galaxy" button which apparently works for some people but didn't for me), it's hard to manage your fleets, it's hard to manage your planets. Et cetera. Et cetera. Et cetera. Not to mention lots of little things like typos EVERYWHERE throughout the UI and "animation" subtitles, which speak to a lack of polish or any kind of QA.

Come on, guys: there are all kinds of games out there that do this sort of thing really well. Just do what they do as far as the UI goes and implement your game concept there. They didn't do that, so this game sucks.
