Who would have thought this strange puzzle game would be so good?

When I ordered Katamari Damacy (KD), I did it out of pressure. GameSpot said I'd better do it since it was so cheap and so great, but I was pretty sure I was throwing away my money. I was wrong! KD is a simplisticly deep puzzle game. You roll a clump of cosmic goo around the Earth, picking up objects until you either reach the time limit or the goal set out for you. The whole interface, story, and tutorial are told in a strange, low-tech way, but its all well done and amusing and pretty streamlined. What really makes the game great in my opinion is the organic nature of it all. In one level (star 8) I started out with a little Katamari under a car in what I assume is a garage. Before I knew it I had a Katamari that was quite big and was picking up a baseball team full of children, as well as shrubbery and other similarly sized objects. But when the timer finally ran out, I had picked up most of the people, buildings, cars, trucks, and towers in the area! To say the least I was elated. It was a blast! This is what you can look forward to in KD. But if you think picking up people with what is essentially a ball (think a snowball of ball of yarn), then you might want to pass. If, on the other hand, just thinking about this makes you excited, by all means get the game. Gord_Mose
