Daikatana was a huge massive disappointment, not just for me, but for everyone. Whoever likes this game needs help.

User Rating: 2 | John Romero's Daikatana N64
Let me just start out this review quickly...I hate Daikatana! I HATE DAIKATANA!!! I HATE IT, I HATE IT, I HATE IT! Oh, did i forget to mention that i Hate it?

PROS: A great soundtrack. The Ending.

CONS: Horrible outdated graphics, even for 2000. Enemy AI is terrible. Friendly AI is even worse. Controls are stiff. The game has the most offensive ad of all time.

Ok, Daikatana is an FPS created by John Romero, the Doom guy...no pun intended. He created Doom and Quake. So obviously this game had a lot of hype. it started development in 1997 and was released around 2000. The outcome...well... AWFUL!!!! The whole game is awful from beginning to end.

Ok, lets take this to the top. The Graphics, there horrible. Maybe bacuse its an N64 game, but guess what? It didn't look that impressive on the PC either. Games like Half-Life for the PC. or Ocarina of Time had better graphics than this. And that was 3-2 years later before this game came out. Absoulutely embarrasing. Okay, okay, so bad graphics don't make a bad game. Thats true, but the game needs to have great gameplay, well does it?

NO! The game may look promising to you, but no, it ain't. The game is rather difficult, because the Enemy AI is broken. All they can do, is run at you, and attack you. Which maybe thats what they supposed to do, but it seems that you die rather easily. And your Friendly AI is even worse. Some of the missions of the game, you need to protect your friendlies, of course, they follow you, and when theres enemies coming at them, GAME OVER, man. GAME OVER!

The controls are stiff, i mean, you can shoot your weapons ok, but the movement is what kills me. Maybe its because the controller i'm using, i don't know.

The game has one good thing though, the soundtrack is really good, when it comes to games like Doom, and Quake, they allways had some suprising music for its time. Daikatana does have a great soundtrack, so good that i got it on my mp3.

The game has been in development hell, trying to eliminate the problems. So they was a lot of lot of advertising. And during the advertising, one ad for Daikatana really killed me. Like an open wound. YOU know what i'm talking about, probably the most offensive, embarassing, lazy, one of the worst ads for any game ever. And ad so bad, that i don't want to talk about it. An ad that killed Daikatana for most people. You want to see it?...copy this link:

I swear thats what really killed that game for me.

One thing that really suprise is the ending. The game doesn't end with a wall of text (Carmageddon 64) Or with a 20 second 'cutscene' (Superman 64) Or with No ending at all... (Doom) It ending with a huge 14 minute ending. Its Not the longest ever, but certainly not the shortest.

But the game just really killed me. Daikatana is probably, one of the most unsuccessful games ever, commercialy. It tops E.T commercially. I really wish i can take that crowbar and smash this game, and get some explosives and blow it up. Hmm...maybe i'll do that on Independence Day. ;)

Daikatana was a huge massive disappointment, not just for me, but for everyone. Whoever likes this game needs help. And if you like this game............*SLAP*
