User Rating: 7.8 | High Heat Major League Baseball 2004 XBOX
High Heat still can't touch EA's or Sega's offerings with respect to gameplay. The game has some very sterile aspects that need to be addressed, particularly in the sound department. Technology has come too far for such rudimentary animations and noises to be acceptable anymore. All that being said, this game represents a major triumph. It is incredibly deep and faithful to the actual sport, and its litany of features ensure that the $50 you spend will not be wasted. Creating players, overseeing minor-league rosters, dealing with contractual issues -- these are the intricacies of baseball that other games completely neglect. High Heat aims to please all varieties of MLB lovers, from the stat junkies to the action fans, and appeases the former while satisfying the latter just enough. The franchise could really steal some thunder from other baseball games on the market in the next couple of years if the shortcomings are tackled. In the meantime, though, this is a very high-quality effort from 3DO.
