Score 8.6 An absolutely gorgeous brilliant action game every PSP owner who is old enough should own.

User Rating: 8.5 | God of War: Chains of Olympus PSP
God of War: Chains of Olympus has been one of the most anticipated titles for Sony Playstation Portable since it's original announcement and now that it's finally here we now pose the very important question: is it any good? First, a bit of history. Chains of Olympus is a prequel in the God of War series, set before the original PS2 game, chains of olympus tells the story of Kratos' struggle against Morpheus, who has captured Helios the Sun God. I should point out this game is not for children, as it contains some pretty adult stuff like sex and violence, so I generally wouldn't let the little ones play it unless you want to have a nice little chat about the context of the content.

GRAPHICS 10/10

This looks absolutely incredible, I can't think of any way to make it look better given the limitations of the system. There are rich textures, some really nice looking effects, brilliant backgrounds, excellent lighting all in a nice and varied game world, top marks.

STORY 7/10

Well the story isn't greatly explained, basically Kratos is really annoyed about something and ha to kill everything that moves as a result. That probably doesn't really do the game justice, there is an underlying story whichi is obviously full of mythology but, I felt this wasn't really properly explained, but this may just be because I never had the proper PS2 titles in this series and am not really upto speed on Greek mythology. The story is enough to keep you going, however and there actually is one, which is usually a big concern in an action game such as this.

LONGEVITY 9/10

While the main game itself is not a huge game, there is definately enough to keep you going. There's a good deal of unlockables to get as well as challenge modes. Also, this is not a game you will only play through once as there are various difficulty settings to keep you going for months on end (depending on your skill level).

GAMEPLAY 8/10

The controls are pretty tight, theres a variety of attacks you can perform on the legions of enemies you come up against, however, you seem to rely alot on a few moves throughout the game alot more than some of the others, but the whole control scheme is generally well thought out and done very well. This game is also littered with a variety of puzzles, which generally add to the gameplay but it is obvious that puzzles are not really a main aspect of this game as they usually resort to repeatedly hitting a button or moving around objects or even sometimes a mixture of the two, this does not detract from the gameplay though, but they could have been enhanced a little more and been a bit more varied.

FUN 9/10

This is a very fun game. There's just such a thrill in the over the top violence and some of the really cool kills you can perform upon enemies. This game can get almost anyone who tries, no matter how opposed to violence they are, screaming 'Oh my God! rip his freaking head off! Thats was one of the coolest things I've ever seen'. Sometimes this level of violence can seem a bit over the top and needless but never in this game, somehow given the setting it seems almost justified and is just plain fun.

OVERALL 8.6/10

One of the best games out for PSP today, but not this is not for children as its full of questionable content and if you're caught playing this you'll be sent to bed without dinner. But if your old enough then I would recommend this for those many hours of PSP usage. This may even prompt me to get the full fat console versions and maybe even a bigger battery for my PSP just so I can play this for even longer, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
