A must-buy for Stand Alone Complex fans.

User Rating: 8.2 | Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex PS2
Ghost in the Shell: SAC is a great 3D action/platformer, especially if you happen to be a fan of the anime.

The gameplay really does a good job of carrying the feel of the show. You play as both Motoko Kusanagi, aka, The Major, and her subordinate Batou. The combat is fast-paced and frenetic and many of the Major's moves are direct takes from the show. There's a good variety of different weapons available to you as well, thought you can also easily get by using only the default SMG.

The graphics aren't fantastic, but they aren't bad either. The character models look excellent and are perfect transfers of their anime roles. The enemies and environments can be a little on the bland side, but I never found it to be a big issue. Another interesting little note: the memory card icon for SAC is CEO Jameson.

As with many anime games, the sound is where SAC shines brightest. The weapon effects are good, with each having a distinct sound and feel. However the voice acting is what makes the game really worth it. The entire cast from the anime dub resumes their roles for the game and the dialogue is written exactly like an episode of the show.

Unfortunately, the ride doesnt last long. Just when you really start to get into it, the game ends. And there is not a whole lot of incentive to play it again, besides that fact that it's SAC.

In summary, Stand Alone Complex is a must buy for any fan of the anime, as it's like playing an episode of the series. It's low price and excellent fan appeal make it worth the short length. Also, for any fans of the show, expect to see more ponderings on human existence from Batou's Tachikoma.
