Unlock ''XCOM Heros''.
By changing the first and last names of a soldier via the customize menu, you can unlock one of 4 characters based off of the crew who made the game. Using them WILL disable trophies for that game, and make the earlier missions extremely unbalanced in your favor, as each soldier will have later game advanced armor and weapons, high stats and be at Colonel rank. Please note that loading a save game with any of these characters still disables trophies.

Hidden Heroes
Change the Name of a Hero to one of the following. This can be done from Barrack under View Soldiers, clicking a Soldier, then going to customize. It can also be done from the customize menu on the deploy screen. Note, using one of these heroes will disable achievements.

Secret Hero Units
Progress through the game until you can hire new soliders. Then, go to the Barracks, and select the "View Soldiers" option. Choose a soldier, then select the "Customize" option. This can also be done from the "Customize" menu at the "Deploy" screen. Change the name of the soldier to one of the following names to unlock the corresponding hero. These new heroes will dramatically improve the unit's stats, and they also have a unique nickname. Note: Using these special heroes will prevent achievements from being earned.

The XCOM Heroes
When going to your soldiers Customize place, enter any of the above first names and last names in the respective place(they must be spelled and capitalized correctly, but nicknames are automatically put in. Note that putting any of these heroes in the game disables achievements permanently(the game warns you), and disables customization for them. However, each of them come with the best of their class, but there equipment cant be used by other squad members or heroes until properly researched.

Change a Soldiers name to any of the following names to unlock a Hidden Hero. Enter the name as you would any other, and once done, the game will ask if you want to summon a hero. These heroes all bear the likeness of the people whose names they're from and have very high stats. Summoning a hero will DISABLE achievements.
