  2. Inheritence

You carry over your Drebin points, weapons, ammunition, items, and special items from a previous game upon game clear. However, Snake will need to encounter Metal Gear II in the first stage to get his stuff back.

Be sure to save your cleared data upon game completion to track your items. Load the cleared data to reap your benefits.

  3. Show Me Your Motions

  5. Beauty and the Beast Photoshoot

  6. Cheaper Prices In Drebin's Store

Set the PS3 system date to a Wednesday or Sunday, and Drebin will have cheaper prices. Also, in Act 5 all prices are halfed.

  7. Vamp's Light Weakness

When fighting Vamp, immediately equip the Solar Gun. A fully-charged blast from it can take Vamp out in a single hit. This leaves him wide open to be grabbed and injected with the syringe. This method can end the fight in a matter of seconds.

  8. Easily Sneak Through The City

The Third Sun chapter involves following a NPC through a city, while avoiding enemy soldiers. They already know what Snake looks like, which makes getting through tricky. However, you can counter this by simply equipping any other characters' FaceCamo that you've unlocked. The soldiers will see you, but won't attack. They're only looking for Snake, after all. If you interact with Resistance members while wearing a female mask, they'll flirt with you. If you do this while wearing a male mask, they'll just look at you closely.

  9. Dancing Beauties

When you have the Beauty and the Beast Photoshoot active, equip your iPod and play "Oishii Two-han Seikatsu." Instead of attacking, your opponent will start dancing along to the music. If you happen to check on Sunny while this is happening, you'll see that she's dancing as well.

  10. Infinite Drebin Points From Dwarf Gekko

When you reach the tank hangar in Act 4, equip as many healing items as you can, alert the Dwarf Gekko to your presence, and start running around. The Dwarf Gekko are programmed to shoot at you, but are incapable of reloading. They merely throw their guns away when they run out of ammunition. These discarded guns can be collected and sold to Drebin for extra points. While the most common gun is the GSR, the Dwarf Gekko will occasionally drop an otherwise rare Desert Eagle, which earn 10,000 points each. As long as you don't kill any Dwarf Gekko, you can keep this process going for as long as your patience or Snake's heath allows.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  11. Infinite Drebin Points In Outer Haven

Before you reach Outer Haven's Microwave Tunnel, you have to run straight through a series of hallways that are infested with Dwarf Gekko. Instead of going forward, hang back near the door, equip The Patriot, activate auto aim, and start firing. You'll earn Drebin Points for every Dwarf Gekko you destroy, and none of them will be able to get close enough to attack you. Since the Dwarf Gekko infinitely respawn in this area and The Patriot has infinite ammunition, you can keep this going for as long as you want.

  12. Infinite Drebin Points In South America

After you've met up with Drebin in South America, spend some time attacking the Confinement Facility nearby. It's surrounded by a watchtower and a perimeter wall lined with barbed wire, and has wood piled in front of it. Every soldier in this area is armed with an XM320, which earns 12,000 Drebin points each. However, it only earns this much if the weapon is dropped without the soldier being killed beforehand. The easiest way to do this is to stand near the entrance or the wood pile, and either hold up the soldiers at gunpoint or shoot them with Cry Ammo when they get close enough. Once you've safely gotten the XM320, kill the soldier and wait for his backup. Since soldiers respawn infinitely in this area, you can earn hundreds of thousands of Drebin points in only a few minutes.

  13. Psycho Mantis Alternate Scene

The scene where you encounter Psycho Mantis changes depending on what kind of controller you use. If you're using a Sixaxis, he'll be mad that the vibration function is gone. This will also trigger flashbacks and a voice-over from Naomi, who will say, "No more massages for you, then" in reference to the holding cell codec in MGS1. If you're using a DualShock 3, he'll be happy that the vibration works. You can also get the Sixaxis scene by turning off the DualShock 3.

  14. Holiday Decorations On The Nomad

Pause the game and look at the interior of The Nomad. If your PS3's date is set to 12/25, there will be a Christmas tree in the cargo hold. If the PS3 is set to 10/31, there will be a Halloween pumpkin.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  15. Otacon's Desktop

Whenever you get the chance, maneuver the camera to get a closer look at Otacon's desktop on The Nomad. You'll find a model of Metal Gear REX from the first game, art for Policenauts, and art for Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner on one of the monitors. Also, be sure to look at Otacon's monitors during the Act 3 briefing. Otacon will have secretly activated a webcam to look at Naomi's chest, and will try to cover it up before Naomi realizes.

  16. PlayStation Consoles On The Nomad

During the Act 2 Briefing, take some time to explore kitchen on the The Nomad. You'll find a PS3 on the table. Sunny will also be playing a PSP nearby. The game she's playing is Penguin Adventure, the first game Hideo Kojima ever worked on.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  17. Exploring The Nomad With The Mk. II

During the mission briefings in The Nomad, you can take control of the Mk. II and interact with objects. If you press the remote control in the cargo hold, it'll change the screen to display a photo slideshow of Akina Minami. If you go up to the radio in the kitchen, you can use the dial to change the song that plays, and there will be different ones for each briefing. You can also go to the chicken coop and poke the animals. They're named Solid, Solidus, and Liquid, after the sons of Big Boss.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  18. Gray Fox Homage

During the boss fight at the end of Act 4, ignore the Gekko for a moment and try pointing the rail gun anywhere near where Raiden and Vamp are fighting on the top of REX. Snake will refuse to fire and say that he can't do it. This is an homage to Gray Fox's final scene in the original Metal Gear Solid, where a very similar scenario played out.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  19. Screaming Mantis Codecs

When you're fighting Screaming Mantis, calling Rose or Otacon will result in a few codecs in which they and Campbell discuss the different tactics Snake used to kill Psycho Mantis in Metal Gear Solid. However, there's also a hidden codec that will only trigger if you go into the settings menu and change your controller to anything aside from 1. This will cause Snake to be confused over why he suddenly can't move, and Otacon will mock him for trying to use the controller trick from the original fight.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  20. Animal Cruelty

After you've beaten Crying Wolf, try shooting or CQCing some of the wolves in the area. This will trigger some codecs from Otacon and Rose. Otacon will be disgusted, and Rose will discuss the link between animal cruelty and antisocial behavior, and threaten to give Snake a psych evaluation if he keeps doing it. Otacon will have a similar reaction if you start killing ravens in one of the other rooms in Shadow Moses.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  21. Rose's Cooking

If you call Rose several times, it'll trigger a humorous codec in which Snake and Campbell attempt to subtly discuss how terrible Rose's cooking is.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  22. Rose's Physics

When you call Rose, try shaking the controller. Rose's chest will jiggle accordingly.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  23. Exit/Exist

Whenever you die in Act 5, don't push any buttons and let the Game Over screen play for a little bit. Eventually, the Exit option will change to Exist. Select it, and you'll hear Liquid yell, "Snake! It's not over yet!" The cursor will then switch over to the Continue option.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  24. Hidden First-Person Views

There are a few scenes that have extra first-person views by pressing L1, but do not have any on-screen prompts:

    - When you encounter Screaming Mantis in Act 1. Move the camera to the left, and you'll see the ghost of Psycho Mantis in the sky.

-When Snake with meets Naomi in Act 2. Laughing Octopus will be lurking outside a window.

-When Naomi is talking to Snake and he drops his cigarette. Snake tries to look up Naomi's skirt. However, Naomi immediately notices and changes her posture.

-When Naomi tells Snake how long he has to live. Snake will look at her chest and refill his Psyche Gauge.

-When the Scarabs appear wearing the disguise during Snake and EVA's meeting in the church in Act 3. The camera will be shown from their perspective.

-When Raging Raven stands up after her hallucination of the birds eating her. Snake will check her out from behind.

-When Psycho Mantis's ghost disappears, and The Sorrow says his iconic line. Pressing L1 will show The Sorrow's ghost floating overhead, and pressing X will give flashbacks to MGS3.

  25. Original Metal Gear Alert Theme

As you're making your way through the city in Act 3, go the park and find a building with the address 314-5. Stand near the door and listen closely. Apparently, someone inside is playing the original MSX Metal Gear; you'll be able to hear the old alert theme, and whoever is playing will say, "No!" whenever they get caught.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  26. Shadow Moses Electrified Floor

Despite this game happening almost a decade after MGS1, the electrified floor in Shadow Moses is still functional. It can also be used to your advantage. When the Gekko appears in the hallway, quickly take command of the Mk. III and get to the control panel near the elevator as fast as possible. This will trigger a button prompt that lets you turn the electricity back on, which will instantly fry the Gekko and award you some extra Drebin Points. Notably, you can also turn the electricity back on when only Snake is standing on it, which will trigger a special reaction.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  27. Shoot The Mk. III

When Otacon is using the Mk. III to hack into a door's security in Act 4, try shooting the Mk. III. Otacon will keep yelling at Snake to stop. If you shoot it enough times, it'll collapse, resulting in Otacon yelling in confusion and a non-standard Game Over.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  28. Change The Channels

There are several TV shows and commercials that play before the game starts. Normally, the ones displayed are randomly chosen. However, you can change the channels and view the others by pressing the Control Stick or Directional Pad in different ways.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  29. Messing With The Resistance

Act 3 tasks you with methodically following Resistance members through a city and letting them lead you to your destination. However, you can forgo the stealth and attack them with guns, explosives, CQC, etc. This will result in multiple codecs from Otacon, who will get increasingly angry with each attack. If you manage to kill enough of them, Otacon will yell at you and trigger a non-standard Game Over.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  30. Gekko Codec

When you reach the hibernating Gekko early in Act 4, call Otacon before it wakes up. They'll discuss the functionality of its hibernation mode. This will trigger a second codec when the Gekko wakes up; if you escape it and call Otacon back, they'll joke about the jumpscare and whoever created the Gekko.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  31. Laughing Octopus Mimics Otacon

During the fight with Laughing Octopus, there's a random chance that she'll transform into an oversized mimic of the Mk. II, and use Otacon's voice to lure Snake into an explosive trap. Calling Otacon while she's mimicking his voice will result in a brief argument between Snake and Otacon. If you contact him after the explosives go off, you'll get another argument.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  32. Hideo Kojima Cameo

At the end of the Psycho Mantis encounter, start mashing the X button when he goes berserk and his mechanical body shakes. When the body finally explodes, the image of Hideo Kojima will flash on the screen a couple of times.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  33. Death Codecs

If you die, immediately call Rose once you've continued. A different codec will be triggered depending on how you died. If you die via explosion, Rose will mention having a nightmare of that happening. If you die via drowning or strangulation, Snake will mention paying more attention to his O2 gauge. If he's stabbed or shot, he'll mention premonitions or feeling like he's died. Rose will suggest it's a mild case of depersonalization disorder, trauma, or a subconscious warning.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  34. Mei Ling's Briefing

When you're watching Mei Ling's briefing in Act 5, you can mess with her presentation by using the analog sticks to move the projector screen around.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  35. Break The Statue

In Act 1, you'll come across a statue. You can pose with it and pretend to be another statue, which will fool enemies. If you do this trick at least 3 times, however, an important piece of the statue will break off in Snake's hand, and any nearby enemies will be alerted.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  36. Motion Sickness

Pause the game and open up Snake's model viewer. Use the control stick to spin him around several times, then resume playing. Snake will immediately throw up.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  37. Shadow Moses Codecs

When you're in Shadow Moses, be sure to contact Otacon multiple times. He has unique codecs for almost every single room and important object in the base, and sometimes you have to call him twice to trigger them.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  38. City Park Statue

When you're tracking the Resistance member in Act 3, run to the park ahead of him. There's a spot near the fountain where you can pretend to be a statue. If you get there fast enough and have the OctoCamo and FaceCamo equipped, you'll be so convincing that the Resistance member will stop and urinate on you.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  39. Power Station Hidden Items

When you play through Act 2, take the time to help the rebels finish their mission of blowing up the Power Station. Once that's done, don't leave the area. Instead, go outside and climb the electrical tower. If you look carefully, you'll find a power line that connects to another tower. Now that the power is out, you can safely grab and climb along it to reach an otherwise inaccessible area. When you reach the other tower and go down, you'll find the area has extra items, ammo, and weapons, including a missile launcher.

  40. Akina Minami Posters

In Act 2, go inside the Vista Mansion and shoot the paintings in the hall near the stairs. One of them will fall off and reveal a poster of Akina Minami. Go into the master bedroom, lay on the bed, look up at the ceiling, and you'll find another poster of her. When you reach the park in Act 3, don't go inside; instead, turn to the right and follow the buildings until you come across another street heading to the right. When you go down that street, you'll see a building on the right with four arches at its entrance. Go in there, and you'll find another Akina Minami poster on the lighted wall. From there, continue along to the perimeter of the park, and turn right to enter Midtown Central Sector. You'll see another poster of her on the right, next to the first vehicle you walk past. Looking at these posters in first person view and taking photos of them will cause Snake to exclaim, "Akina!"

  41. Crying Wolf Hearts

If you defeat Crying Wolf non-lethally, pay close attention to the following scene when the wolf dog approaches and retrieves her body. Since she's still alive, the wolf dog will have hearts floating above its head.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  42. Body Searching Frogs/Haven Troopers

If you manage to hold a Frog/Haven Trooper at gunpoint, be careful if you try body searching them. They're an all-female unit, and will react differently than other enemies. While doing a crotch check on a male enemy instantly knocks them out, groping Frogs/Haven Troopers will make them angry. They'll yell at you for being a pervert and retaliate with a powerful kick. If you press the triangle button while searching their chests, they'll react with anger as well.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  43. Waiting Out Crying Wolf

If you're having trouble with Crying Wolf, there is a simple, but effective solution. As soon as the battle starts, hide under the supply truck to the east of your location. Staying under there protects Snake from the blizzard, which prevents his Psyche from depleting. The wind drowns out most of the sounds of his weapons. The Frogs can't see him, so there's no risk of an alert unless they're close to the truck. Crying Wolf will occasionally come into the area, but won't be able to see Snake. You can use the NVG/Infrared to spot and snipe her easily. She'll throw grenades in retaliation, but Snake will regenerate his health due to him laying down. Just be patient and repeat this process enough times, and you'll eventually win.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  44. Frogs/Haven Troopers Tactics

The Frogs/Haven Troopers are elite enemies, but they have some unique weaknesses. If they see an Emotive Magazine, they'll be drawn to it and automatically salute. Shooting them with Emotive Ammo will cause them to instantly faint due to their emotions being suppressed by SOP. If they see Snake while he's wearing the Big Boss FaceCamo, they will instantly faint as well. These tricks are incredibly useful when trying to escape Advent Palace in Act 1, and infiltrating Outer Haven in Act 5.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  45. Shadow Moses Footprints

As you make your way through Shadow Moses, try turning on the Solid Eye's Night Vision. If you look carefully, you'll find two sets of footprints that follow some of the same path you're on, but will eventually deviate into areas where you can't reach. This foreshadows the presence of Vamp and Naomi long before the actual reveal.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  46. Alternate Opening Battle Scenes

There are actually four different variations of how the cutscenes for the opening battle play out. The one you get is determined by whether or not you pick up a rifle, and which route you take.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  47. Annoying Otacon

When you're infiltrating the building to reach Meryl, you'll come across a laser grid with an explosive trap. Otacon will advise you to ignore it and find another way around. Back off for a bit, and then return to the same spot. Otacon will give you the same advice, but worded differently. If you repeat this about half a dozen times, Otacon will get annoyed and tell you to do whatever you want.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  48. Shooting Meryl

When you get the chance in Act 5, try shooting Meryl. Otacon and Rose will yell at you and get increasingly angry each time you do. Also, killing her or Johnny will trigger an instant Game Over.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  49. Syringe Side Effects

If you use the syringe too much, it will start having negative effects. Snake will throw up if he overdoses. Each time he throws up, the amount of health and psyche lost will increase, to the point that he'll be left on the verge of death.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  50. Shooting For Psyche Recovery

If you're running low on psyche, try shooting various objects, like the wine bottles at the bar in Act 1 or the flower pots in Naomi's lab in Act 2. You can recover a lot of it quickly by using explosives to destroy multiple items at the same time.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  51. Weaken Raging Raven

During the motorcycle chase sequence in Act 3, try to focus on shooting Raging Raven. Any damage you inflict during the chase will carry over to her boss battle.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  52. Ocelot's Kiss

During the Snake Eater section of the final battle with Ocelot, allow him to get Snake into a chokehold. Ignore the escape prompt and don't touch the control stick. Eventually, Ocelot will kiss Snake.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  53. Rose's Wardrobe

If you like talking to Rose, try playing on different days of the week or changing the PS3's internal clock. She'll wear different outfits depending on what day it is.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  54. Policenauts Poster

When you're in Otacon's former lab in Act 4, take the time to look at the walls. You'll find a Policenauts poster, and scanning it with the Solid Eye will net you an extra 1,000 DP.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  55. Replenish Health During Final Battle

During the Snake Eater section of the final battle with Ocelot, try mashing the action button. This will replenish your health and psyche gauges.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  56. Cooking Photos

If you haven't obtained the camera before Act 4 begins, be sure to take at your photo gallery. You'll find a few funny photos of Sunny and Naomi in the kitchen.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  57. Checking Out Meryl

When you're fighting alongside Meryl in Act 1, enter first person view and look at her pants. Aside from being a callback to the original game, this will also automatically replenish your psyche gauge.

    Contributed by: discoinferno84

  58. Audio Flashbacks

There are several audio flashbacks to conversations and codecs in previous games that will only activate if you perform certain tasks or go to certain areas. With the exception of the crop circle flashback, all of these reference the first Metal Gear Solid. Also, almost all of these are exclusive to Shadow Moses in Act 4. If you listen to them without any kind of interruption, you'll be awarded Drebin Points. Note that these will not occur during Caution Mode.

For easier reference, equip the NVG and follow the hand prints that are on the ground. If you follow this trail of prints, you'll eventually come to a metal and concrete display. This shows the hand prints and signatures of several of the staff members who worked on the game. If you lay down on it, you'll acquire the Hand Camo. This can be registered as a unique Octocamo.
