So I was looking around my house for my latest copy of GameInformer Feb 2007 and found it in my sons room.  I started flipping thru it and came across some Halo3 hyping article.  So anyway GI asked Brian Jarrard (Community Lead) for Bungie if game demos should ever cost money??  His response was " Those types of decisions aren't ever made by us developers. However, personally speaking, there are some demos that are cool enough and big enough in scope where I'd probably be willing to pay something." (pg 64 )  So the question is would you ever pay for a Marketplace Demo???  Personally,  I think someone needs to beat this guy with repeatedly in the groin with a 360 controller for even feeling that he would pay for a freaking DEMO.  This is scary that someone in game development would ever consider making us pay for a Demo esp. the Halo3 demo is looming and one of the most anticipated games this year.

I would pay a max of $.05 USD. I would rather rent it and play the full game for 5 1/2 days.

Here's one system I could see: You buy a demo disc with a collect of demos on it, say 5-10 demos, and you pay 5 bucks. With that tho, you get some kind of discount later if you buy the game or something. Like you get one 5 Dollar off coupon for one of the games on the disc. Not saying I would actually opt for that, its just that that's the only way I would ever really see myself paying for demos.

That would sort of make it not a Demo at all... Though I could see final games getting broken down into their multiplayer and single player components and being sold seperately. There could come a time when game series actually evolve in that new content can be added as part of a subscription, making it essentially the same game but keeping it fresh for long periods of time.

no, demos are pretty much a way for companies to hype and advertise their game. i'm not gonna pay to play an advertisement.

i dont demo's should cost firstly because they are unfinished version and most of the time you can barely get 20 mins worth of play.

I pay for games not demos. Demos just help me decide to buy or not.

I might pay for a demo if it wasn't a demo in the traditional sense (half-hour or less of highly unfinished gameplay) and more a demo in the sense that it's a separate chunk of a completed game. Like if Halo 3 released a "demo" that was in actuality a prologue to the game done with completed halo 3 source, fully rendered and containing at least 2 hours of gameplay. I'd probably pay like 5 bucks for that.

No freaking way. There is a reason for demos. That is so we won't have to shell out money for a game if it's crap (ie Superman Returns)

No... and never.

And I'll also add, not even the Halo 3 demo so the people at Bungie can screw if they're considering it... and it sounds like they are.

Nope, I know that if they did that I'd buy OXM and just play the demos on that, I'd get a magazine with it, even if it was tripe.

No way! The reason people download demos are because there free, and two it allows them to try a sample of a $60 game before they buy.

No, i would never pay for demo's. The only reason why i download and play demo's is to help in the decision of buying the game. If they decided to start charging for demo's. I would go back to what i used to do, rent the game before buying.

no. demos are a way to advertise the full product. I will never pay for playing/watching/listening to a advertisment.

Never!

A demo should be something that is free so that a company can entice you to purchase the full retail product.

Charging for a demo is way out of line.
