I've played it and Kingdom Hearts is my favorite game series, but I don't agree on it having the best story.

BTW whoever said God of War has a good story is seriously mistaken, it has the MOST unoriginal story, why? Look at Greek mythology, its all been done. I do admit that the game does have awsome gameplay however.

haha how can you make fun of god of war when you list legend of dragoon and assasins creed?? seriously your opinion is void. if there is one game that should NEVER EVER EVER have a sequel made...its legend of dragoon...worst game ever....

how old were you when you played it? Legend of Dragoon is the most convoluded/simple crap...its hard to follow, AND the themes in it are very simple and childish, that is a bad combination....ALSO the gameplay was attrocious. "Go to DRAGON CAVE, and get the DRAGON EGG, then return to the DARK FOREST, and then go to the DRAGON SUMMIT"...every fight took a half hour...over and over and over, worst jrpg ever

also, just because gow is based on greek myth doesnt make it unoriginal, most stories get retold countless times, in countless different ways...the story might be old, but its good, and its not too complicated and too dumb at the same time (like legend of dragoon)

Looking at more recent games, I would have to choose either Mass Effect or Bioshock. They're not necessarily original stories, but they were told in an impressive way.

Mass Effect's story was really good, but the best I have ever played... The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. When that game came out, wow. That sh** was masterful.

It's hard to believe that the best story that some have ever played was in a GTA game... : (

I was planning to shut up but this guy is amusing me. How can you even propose Oblivion for such a category. The story in Oblivion was so pale and predictable I bored myself to death finishing it.

In the beginning while you are still in the dungeons, you can't even MOVE (they block your keys) when the damn killer runs away. They couldn't even make a solid story that would have complete interaction.

Haven't played any Mass Effect yet (only half an hour) but I'm not likely to consider this game a milestone in storyline. It's just somethign that's been done for ages (changing the storyline through dialogue lines). Something's got to change or else we'll get to see the same stuff over and over.

And why do some of you blame GTA 4 for making it here? It's definately a good story since it actually involves the main character into some emotional stress and issues. Niko Bellic is not the standard cold blodded killer that will do this and that without reasons. The plot in GTA IV is definately the best one for a game of its kind.

So far on the Xbox360 the best storyline I've had was Lost Odyssey, but if you guys would like to play some real storyline (where actions make the story, not selecting some dialogue lines), try Sacrifice on the PC

I think he means God of War for the PS2. Usually Gears' abbreviation is "GeoW." But then again, this is the internet and I'm sure someone out there thinks Gears has a superior story.

The World Ends With You has a very deep story. You guys should play it. Terrific gameplay, can change difficulty, excellent story, the perfect DS game.

I'm just gonna name some recent games i've played with great stories(generally in execution rather than substance)

GTA a good story? Wow... just..... wow. Even COD4's story blows GTA away.

In my fairly limited 360 experience the best I've seen is Bioshock. Though I haven't played Lost Odysee the story sounds intriguing. Mass Effect was pretty good too.

Best I've ever played all time... Planescape: Torment.

Kingdom Hearts (only played the first) was okish. Just way too childish. FF tactics gets a lot of nods but I never understood the big deal with that story. Just your run of the mill political faction story. Most FF stories are pretty lame. They Try hard but ultimately fall flat in terms of impact upon the player.
