I'd either have to choose between Red Dead Redemption, Which had a great variety of characters, locations and a compelling story or Mass Effect, Which had tonnes of characters, and choice which lets you interpret the story in the way YOU want to.
Final Fantasy XIII All of the characters really stuck with me, and I love the classic RPG mixed with modern battle system elements...and it was Final Fantasy on Xbox...what else do you want! The world was so well thought out, and the scale was just just amazing. And the story...wow, I mean when just take Sazh's story for an example, and you really sympathize with his strife. That, times 6, and you get FF13's story. So grand and epic, in every sense of the word.
Halo:Combat Evolved Personally I find Halo:CE the best single player experience (Yes I know you could play with a friend on campaign mode). The story, the characters and the music opens up a new world for you. There are times when I thought I was in the game.
I see that the usual answers pop up but nobody cares to mentione (bar one or two people) the best campaigns among the "underdog" games - Metro 2033 and The Darkness...
The Darkness, hands down. Never has a game captivated me in such a way that The Darkness has._Doomsayer_
Excellent game,cant wait for a sequel.Others I like are Halo,Gears,ME,Bioshock and Dead space,I cant choose a favorite and just to throw it out there I would love to see another Stranger Oddworld game for the 360.A Strangers Wrath was one of my favorite campaigns from last gen.
Mass Effect two for its high level of polish, engaging story and characters which co exsist with a fast pace combat system that only serves to enhance the games realism and rpg elements.
