Has to be Oblivion. It is such an amazingly wide open game, that I had no idea even where to begin. I quit on it immediatly but gave it another shot one day and then put 75 hours into it.
I had never played a tactical shooter before, so I found it really frustrating at first. When I finally buckled down and got the hang of it, I enjoyed it.
I did not like Hitman: Blood Money at all after I beat it. Then I gave it another go and completely changed how I played that game, and lets just say I played it through 5 additional times for a total of 6 complete playthroughs. Once I really understood how to play the game, I fell in love and it stands as one of my favorite 360 games yet.
saints row, crack down and gears of war can you belive it. i got the gears bundle and i didnt touch for 3 months i got bored of playing other games and tried it out boy was i wrong the game was friggin sweet
Blue Dragon. After playing the demo, I wasn't impressed at all. Some friends of mine have it and suggested giving the full game a chance(knowing how much I love my RPG's), so I gave it a shot... Now, I'm addicted to it.
The first game I had this happen with was Final Fantasy 7. It was my first real rpg. I didn't understand it at first (the menus, materia system etc..) and thought it sucked, until I got into it. Now it's easily one of my favorite games of all time.
I guess more current would be oblivion for the same reason somebody else already said.

yup Oblivion is kinda slow in teh beginning and ur movement of the character is a little lame ... but after u play for a while u c itz for a reason, u get ur skills up and u learn more moves ... i played the game for like wut 20 to 30 minutes and didnt play it 'till like the last day of the rental ... i bought it the day after, classic
Quake 4. This was one of the first games I got. I always loved the Quake series but after reading all of the negative reviews my mind was pretty much programmed to hate it. I played for a few minutes and decided it sucked. I went back to give a try like a week later and couldn't stop playing. I still play it sometimes. I didn't have the problems I read about, it's under rated IMO.
Ghost Recon: Advance Warfighter and Project Gotham Racing 3. Both I didn't like because I wasn't good at them, but then after I'd played them for a while I loved them. Both are great games.
Viva Pinata. I got it and played it a couple of times and I hated it. Then, during my summer break I went back to it and loved it. It really is such a good game. :)
Condemned. I rented it once, played it for less than a level and didn't touch it again - wasn't impressed. Then during the post-launch game drought I gave it another try and ended up finishing the whole game in one night and fully enjoying it and the weird plot twists.
Mine would be Fable on the original Xbox. After reading all the promises on here and other sites about how it was going to revolutionise RPGs, etc I was really up for it, only to come crashing down to Earth after the opening hour of playing it. If you carry on it is a very enjoyable experience though, but not at all "revolutionary."
I really thought Bioshock was going to be garbage. But until I bought the game I didn't realize how addciting it is. I like the story line and how it keeps you on edge. I like that different plasmids and the powers they give you.
Gears of War, it looked stupid shooting monster type creatures but I enjoyed it when I bought the game. Couldn't really tell how the game would be since there was no demo so I just went along with the hype
I didn't care for Dead Rising at first. It was kind of hard, but after leveling up a bit and playing it a bit more, I really started to like it.
Also, Ninja Gaiden on the original Xbox. I hated it so much at first, probably because I was getting pwn'd. hard. But now I think it's one of the best games ever made, and it's not even that hard really.
I gave Skate a second chance. I played it for 5 minutes, deleted it. Then downloaded it again and I play the demo more than any other one of my games. lol
it has to be dead rising. the beginning is really hard almost impossible, but after playing it for2 hours, it became one of my favorite games for the 360
