I think both games are really good. Mass Effect excels in its story and character development. Oblivion excels at exploration and and the sheer number of things you can do in the game. I prefer story and character development so I am inclined to choose Mass Effect over Oblivion.
Have played both games and although they are great RPG games I enjoyed Mass Effect more. Oblivion is much longer and the story is very good but in Mass Effect you are draw into the story line much more. I gave the edge to Mass Effect.
I vote ME. Oblivion had a very plastic world IMO. There was a LOT to do but very little about it had any emotional depth. ME on the other hand was a lot more restricted but it had a LOT more personality.
Oblivion lasted me hundreds of hours. I didn't like Mass Effect at all, I hated the gameplay and the characters. Even if I did enjoy Mass Effect, Oblivion still had a lot more to offer than Mass Effect ever could. Mass Effect is just the newer game that's all, so people will probably say they like it more because they remember it more.
Having played both games enough to get 1250/1250 from Oblivion and 1000/1000 from Mass Effect, I'd say that Oblivion is better. It just has everything I want in a game, and I wish they'd make more games like it and Two Worlds.
i loved mass effect more. i loved oblivion but overall Mass effect did a better job at story telling and character growth. oblivion was good, dont get me wrong but it took to long to do a mission and the world was ridiculously big for no reason.
I prefer Oblivion because you so limited in terms of options in Mass effect. In oblivion you don't just have to choose combat, you can mix in magic and even a little stealth, But Mass Effect is outstanding when it comes to story and character development.

What does "It's from Bioware" have to with it. Bioware f*cked up on Kotor. Mass Effect is the only game they got right.
well obviously thats just your opinion because in my opinion and many others its a fantastic game. I think both games are great but i would go with mass effect because i got way more into it. I couldnt put it down when i started.

Im pretty sure that kotor was almost just like it, the only different thing was the combat which while fun it wasnt as good as live action, which bioware fixed in jade empire
