I've installed Burnout Paradise, Gears 2, Oblivion, and Banjo-Kazooie. BK and Oblivion run better, Gears 2 and Burnout run about the same.

I installed Fallout 3 and the framerate seems to be a bit more steady and locked into place. Still a few hitches in random places and pop in. But no noise is soooo nice

I installed Gears of War 2 and I noticed of course no sound from my 360, less lag, it looks a tad bit better, no pop ins, and less loads.

I did PGR4 and load times are WAY better. It used to take upwards of a minute to load a race and now it takes less then 15 seconds. Unfortunately since I only have a 20GB harddrive I'll only be able to have 1 or 2 games installed at once. The installs are actually quite huge (Halo 3 6.9GB, PGR4 6.0 GB). It took about 9 minutes for each one to install.

I have installed Gears2 but I didnt see any improvements. The 360 is as loud as ever and I cant even play gears2 splitscreen without experiencing horrible FPS's. Am I doing something wrong?

I have the 20GB as well and I installed my bud's COD4 on it, I went to go play it at my house an hour later or so. I clicked on it and it said, "Insert Call of duty 4 disc to continue" I dont know what the point of putting games on your harddrive is if you still need the disc. My question is, Is this a problem or did this happen to you aswell. And, If you do need the disc, what is the point of putting games on your HDD?

You must have a bad disc or your system is dying. Or you could be accidentally playing it off the DVD instead of the HDD.  Splitscreen works fine for me.

The biggest/most important improvement is sound and I assume console temperature, great feature but with a 20GB drive I have to install/uninstall everytime I change games.

Click Y then select Run from Hard Drive, it can't be making any sound, no more disc spin which is awesome.

The points is that it reduces loading times/texture pop in, the drive isn't running so it isn't loud, and there are some other advantages. Did you really think Microsoft would be stupid enough to let you play without a disc? Why not just give the games away for free then.

you are not suppose to install halo 3 to ur HDD, because the load time for everymap gets worst, even bungie them selft said it.i suggest you delete it.

Yeah I know. It was the first the thing I did just to see what size it was and how it was withoutthe drive running and to see if it made any difference for campaign.

Fallout 3 is hella faster with the HDD install. So far that's the only game I've tried. Damn my 20 GB HDD... Micro$oft needs to add support for 3rd party HDDs already.

My 360 still makes loud noices even when I play from the harddrive, however it isnt strange when I think about it. My console was made in 2005...

I installed Fable II. It was very loud and very anoying, but now it is so much more silent. Loading time is the same or at least not enough for me to notice. Yea Micro is not that stupid not to require the disc. Could you imaging renting a game and allowing all your friends to copy it. That would have been awsome for us but Micro is in the buisness of well being a buisness who wants to make money.

It is so you can't go to Blockbuster, rent a bunch of games, and then rip all of them and take them back. Or, like you just tried, to rip your buddy's game and play it at home. The purpose is to reduce load times and make the console quieter, not to let ten people split the cost of a game and rip it on each other's system.

Not to mention allowing such things would inevitably kill the 360. No one would buy games, then developers would stop making them, then you would never have anything new to play. It would be the PSP all over again.

I installed COD4 and Gears of War. I saw no improvement except the disc didn't spin so there wasn't the semi truck level noise. I'm about to try it on Oblivion and see if it cuts down on the loading times.

It greatly cuts down on load times and also makes the game itself run so much smoother.

I've only installed two games:

Left 4 Dead  - 5GB

It feels just slightly faster.

Fable 2 - 6.8GB

DOES load faster.

I'm really happy with this feature. My 360 stays cool and does not make that much sound when I play those two games.

No. If you check it under your memory tab the installed game is a seperate file from your saved game file.

I have installed COD : WAW and Gears 2 and it makes a massive difference. When playing COD from the disk it sounded like a lear-jet taking off (How could a console be so loud?). Now there is nothing but silence and no more waiting around with load times. Best thing Microsoft has done with the 360. I would rather more advancements in this area rather than beautifying the dashboard.

not all games work better from the hd, all are made to be streamed from dvd, and therefore not all games benifit from running from the hd and dont work as good. they have been quite a few devs come out and tell you not to install the game unless u want it to run slower. id just uninstall it not like gears 2 runs slow anyways. u should really just install games that get stuck on the loading screen for a while inbetween playing
