Ok I was really into the whole new modern warfare thing and the new weapons and the whole class customization system was amazing. Now they pull out COD5 (another WW2 game) which just completely makes me want to kill myself. Im serious i hate WW2 games. Me personally i feel that game developers should just stop WW2 games altogether. Ok im most definetly not going to buy COD5 but what about you, how do you feel about this whole situation?

Well since no one forces you to buy games who cares? If they made no ww2 shooters or a hundred how would that affect you? Either way you wont buy it correct? Isn't the outcome going to be the same no matter what? Anyway i'll buy COD5 as long as it turns out as good as it looks. I don't care about what era it's in as long as it's a well built game that's fun.

I'm perfectly fine with WWII. If you don't want it, your going to have to wait until COD6.

Well personally i'd rather play a sci-fi game. Between modern and WW2 i guess modern but only by alittle bit because the weapons are better. Although COD5 looks great because it's a lot different from COD2 and COD3 setting wise. I just wish more games like turning point come out that try and add things. I know the game turned out bad but to add things would be great. I'd love to see a Korean war game that would be even more interesting.

I think I'm ready for another good ww2. Modern combat was cool for a bit, but there is a reason so many ww2 games are published.

I like WWII games, but I think there are too many. It should be balanced , like 25%WWII - 25%Modern - 50%Tom Clancy games.

I just want a red dot sight on my M1 Garand, and I want to be able to laugh at people using the ACOG on the Springfield. That's all I've ever wanted... sadly I have been denied of this dream.

As good as CoD5 looks, I think I'm just going to wait undtil Infinity Ward takes up the reigns once again unless CoD5 gets stellar reviews and has a strong online prescence.

While I liked the new Modern setting, the COD series has been the only WWII series that I like. So either way, I will probably like it. I'm interested to see what kind of perks they use in the WWII setting.

I don't know, I've heard good things about it from 1up. It's taken a lot of things from COD4, such as onscreen points.

I honestly don't understand why would they return to a WWII setting after having so much success in a modern warfare setting, and almost perfecting the modern warfare setting game. I'll probably rent before buying because i'm not a big fan of WWII games either.

I'm of the camp of being hideously burned out and bored with the WW2 setting for an FPS. We've too many as it is. And it's always the same three weapons that are the only ones worth a damn to use in the whole campaign and the majority of multiplayer, as they could have 100 other weapons to choose from but they'd all suck. I'd have rathered a direct sequel to CoD4, to learn the fate of Capt. Price and the others after that rather kick-in-the-balls ending that they gave us there.

I don't plan to buy CoD5 since it's being developed by Treyarch...the same people who developed CoD3 and that game was horrible IMO.

Really? I find that awesome! :D OOOOOORAAAHHHH!!!

If COD4 was a WW2 game, I'd probably have never bought it. And like someone else said, if they did so great with modern warfare, why come back to the super-overused-WW2? I don't care that it's being developed by Treyarch, you can't say a game sucks before it gets released. But still, I'm sick and tired of WW2... unless this game gets scores similar or higher then COD4, I might not even touch it.

do you not realise call of duty is a world war 2 game, cod4 was the only exception to the rule. it dont mean at all that its only modern combat from now on. cod is ww2 game just like medal of honour is a ww2 game. get over it, it wont be that bad as its built using cod4's engine so will be pretty much the same game but in ww2 with different weapons. you should really search for the 500 threads like this made since this time last year before making another the same.

Why do people assume cod 5 will suck because treyarch makes it? Cod 3 got 8.5/10 even with it's 8 months of devolopment. COD 5 has been in the works for over 2 years and it will have lots of features that cod 4 did.

One of the main things that makes an FPS interesting is the choice of weapons. If you just stick with the same boring layout of weapons that every WW2 shooter has, then it misses one of the main attractions for a FPS

Doom had the BFG, Quake had the railgun, Halo had the Spartan Laser, Gears had the Lancer

COD5 has ??? the same tired boring selection of weapons that can be found in any other WW2 FPS game

Treyarch started developing this game before cod4 was even released. Therefore they didnt know that the modern setting would be a huge sucess. Personally i liked cod 3 so ill probably get cod 5.

I dont care about the WW2 atmosphere, COD2 was and still is much better than COD4, the problem with COD5 is the change of developer, from the creator of 2 and 4 to the punks that made 3.

Couldnt agree more. I have played and like them all. But i wll be honest i had More fun playing COD3 then Cod4. Probably since the new one to me had to many fustrating things in it, like mortydome etc, and the likes of last stand. Were COD3 had more pros like tanks and Jeeps it was fun. I for one think im going to have more fun with Cod5 then ever with Cod4. Well at least i hope.

The difference being that a historical shooter can't just invent new weapons or equipment. They are limited to pick only what was around at the time.

A modern shooter has a much wider choice since they can pick pistols/rifles/explosives/vehicles/specialist equipment from any of the forces around the world, even including weapons going through experimental trials.

Just look at COD4. Sure each weapon has appeared in other shooters (though most not on 360), but for each cIass of weapons you are given several choices, usually one NATO and one ex-soviet.

Now look at COD5 and you can basically just list out all the weapons from COD3 and you have the weapons for the new game

Im sorry would you like to start naming some of the modern day shooters that compare in number to WW2 shooters? All i see is CoD4 and the tom clancy games, in which there are only 5. Theother games you consider modern, arent all real guns aiming for realism, im sure you think that GoW is modern, and Halo series.. Those dont count, there is 4 CURRENT modern games including the old XBox that people play:
Ghost Recon 2, Rainbow Six Vegas, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and CoD4.

Thats... about... it....

Then go ahead and kill yourself you'll probably be doing the world a favor. From what I've seen COD5 looks amazing WW2 has been played out in Normandy. However no one has made a good pacific theater game and I've been waiting years for that. I can't get enough of the Russian campaign that was the best part of all the COD WW2 games. Every Russian level has been intense I'm looking forward to this one. Plus they've increased the scope it's going to have a much more epic feel with larger levels and more going on then the linear funneled feeling I got from COD4. Finally we get coop in a COD game. I just can't believe it too them this long to deliver coop. I'll be buying it you'll be whining and I'll be having fun torching zips with my flame thrower.

No, modern warefare ftw. WWII is just boring, even though I'll admit COD is definately one of the best WWII games ever made. Got fed up with WWII after BF1942 (sick game-in a good way) and MOHAA (also awesome), I'd say COD 5 will be a great game nonetheless

It's not a downgrade at all.

Seriously, why does it matter when the game takes place? What matters is if it's fun,. and World at War looks fun.

Besides, Call of Duty was all about World War II until 4. It was a WWII series.

I don't see how it should matter to you guys though. I mean, I doubt most of you have played more than like two games set in World War II. World War II games never were big on consoles, not to mention that Call of Duty 4 out sold each of the previous Call od Duty games by over five times, so most of you honestly don't even know what Call of Duty is all about or how the series chas changed(or more appropriatly, hasnt changed).

If anything Call of Duty 4 was a down grade since it did near nothing to change the gameplay. Perks to throw off balance and shooting through walls. Woopdy doo.

Besides, World at War will be going over parts of World War II, shooter rarely do.

You'd rather kill yourself? Just skip the game and continue to play CoD4. I don't see a problem with another WWII setting. Want to know why? I DO NOT HAVE TO BUY IT. It isn't mandated by the U.S. Government that you have to buy a WWII game. I will though, as a fan of the CoD series.

a gun is a gun, if they go back to using guns which require skill to kill people with then it makes it a better game online for me. i take it you cant handle killing people with the ww2 weapons but can get easy kills on cod4

Thats... about... it....

realism? cods a run and gun, no run and gun is realistic , espieally with all the perks.

COD5 has ??? the same tired boring selection of weapons that can be found in any other WW2 FPS game

djrobst

just like modern combat has the same old weapons from other modern combat games , but they are new weapons like flame thrower for example. shud be a good game since they using cod4s engine to make it , the same people also making the new james bond game for activision as well again with cod4s engine.

Now look at COD5 and you can basically just list out all the weapons from COD3 and you have the weapons for the new game

a gun is a gun, if they go back to using guns which require skill to kill people with then it makes it a better game online for me. i take it you cant handle killing people with the ww2 weapons but can get easy kills on cod4

LOL I love it how your logic links not liking something with being crap at it

I make a post about wanting more variety of modern weaponry and you have to resort to a "I'm better at shooters than you because I like old guns" argument. nice

The fact that you say "a gun is a gun" shows just how little you understand

I don't care, just so long as it's made by Infinity Ward. Though, I want another good and beefy campaign like in Call of Duty 2's. Call of Duty 4's campaign was way too short and only good for one playthrough because so many of the missions were gimmicky.

Now see there was no reason to be an ass. GoW and Halo arent modern. they're sci-fi, so dont try making me sound like an idiot cause of that. There are 9 rainbow six games that all use modern weaponry. 8 Ghost recon games that use modern weaponry. Theres COD4 of course. 6 splinter cell games that all utilize modern weapons. And thats just the Clancy games you forgot to mention. Just cause they arent all nex-gen doesnt denie the obvious note they all have modern weaponry in them. So if you really want a full list beyond just those let me know and i'd be happy to send you a message with EVERY single one I can find. That way you wont be embarassed or get flamed on here.

I'm going to get it simply because there really hasn't been a decent Pacific WWII game since MoH. And even that was kinda crappy.
