I just started Bioshock 2 yesterday and I can tell it's a great game but the magic of Bioshock1 is hard to be re-created.

as did i. the little sisters were easy since the game tells you how many are left. replay value is pretty good.

thats great when i complain the post goes through. lets try this again. i played through bioshock like 4 or 5 times. each time i explored every inch of every level (as best to my knowledge) my second to last play through i used a guide to find the few audio tapes i missed (thank god for being able to back track in this game) my final play through i played on the hardest setting with the vita chambers turned off. this really added to the intensity because if you died you lost all your progress up until your last save, so you had to save often. definitely my favorite FPS and possibly game in general on the 360.

I'm just playing through it my first time, not really concentrating on nabbing the achievements.

So far, it is an amazing game.

I won't ruin anything but you're in for quite a treat man. Bioshock 1 is in my top 5 this generation for sure. :)

Bioshock 2 was still fun but the story and atmospher was lacking. I'll defnitely play through Bioshock a third time, but I don't think I'll play 2 through a 2nd :(

I found the gameplay quite fun, but everyone has their own opinion.

The techniques used to carry the brilliant story is what sold me as this being one of the best presentations of what an excellent game is.

I seem to play through Bioshock every six months or so since its release and I'm not entirely sure why?

Just love the atmosphere etc..

Still to play the sequel though

Xbox360Gamer15
which usually means you have gotten all the little sisters in that level. When you pause/go into the menu, it should tell you whether or not you have found/freed/harvested all the little sisters in that level

try leaving that level and coming back; or following him around until he pulls a little sister out of a vent

This will work the best. They usually go straight to a vent if they don't have one, or they just put it in the vent. Regardless, it won't take long for him to return to her.

True. But I got annoyed by the fact the some enemies are resistant against certain plasmids. That killed replay for me. But to each his or her own.

Man.

Just about to the ending of this game, and all I can say is man.

They really did put a lot into the presentation of the plot, and exactly how everything is set up.

An amazing story.

ShadowedSight

Exactly.

It seems like nowadays, development studios try to make games that seem like movies to show they have a good story. But the atmosphere, camera effects, dialogue would honestly if translated to a movie kill all the intensity. 2K Boston/Australia figured out how to deliver a great story in a game the way it should be.

I am in the middle of my 2nd run right now.. I just got Bioshock 2 so I decided I would freshen up my memory on the Bioshock world by replaying the first Bioshock before I start Bioshock 2. And I got all the little sisters on my first play through. Its not hard at all.. Like others said follow the big daddy around until he goes to the vent to get a little sister.

what if he leads me to splicers and then he attacks them and then I attack them and then by mistake make the big daddie mad because of a stray plasmid or bullet?

I agree. The replayability is fantastic.

First playthru I just treated it like a shooter, collected and listened to a bunch of logs, played the game the way I would.
Second playthru was a pure plasmid / tonic playthru
Third was the brass balls one and was a mix although I ended up favoring plasmids for the obvious reason that you can get thru the game without really participating in many fights.

The thing that opened up Bioshock for me as a replayable game was the variety in ways to tackle a situation. Take, for example, a turret. Your options are

  1. Shoot the turret and kill it
  2. Shoot the turret using electric augmented ammunition to kill it faster
  3. Use an electricity plasmid on it to stun it and kill it
  4. Trigger a security camera and throw the security bullseye plasmid at it so the security bots kill it
  5. Shock it and then hack it to fight for you
  6. Use an ice plasmid on it, then shock it, then hack it (ice makes the liquid flow slower)
  7. Use target dummy plasmid then sneak up and hack/destroy it
  8. Use Hypnotise Big Daddy or just lure a big daddy into line of fire and let him kill it

The ways to deal with enemies are so varied depnding on your plasmids/tonic level/weapon skill. That's jsut a turrent aboev but, on my various playthrus, I found an amazing number of ways to leal with all sorts of splicers, big daddy's, cameras, turrets, etc.

I've completed it once, and it's one of the most awesome games I've ever played, hands down. I explored every corner of every room in Rapture, and still I didn't find all of the weapon upgrade stations :( Not all of the audio diarys either. I'll try playing through it once more looking for them, and if I fail again, I'll use a guide :P I'll have to play through it two more times anyway if I want to see all of the endings :)

I didn't think the replayability was much better than a typical shooter. It's not like there are legitimate, RPG-sty|e ways of dealing with situations; you just kill everything. The fact that you use one weapon or ability instead of another doesn't make this any more replayable than say, Halo, where you have a limited weapons selection. Based on the definitions of "replayability," in this thread, I can think of a ton of games that are more replayable than BioShock:

  • Every RPG
  • Every online shooter
  • LEGO Star Wars
  • Splinter Cell
  • Assassin's Creed
