I'm with Smooth on the GT games although I never played 1 or 2. 3 was amazingly addictive but 4 started to lose me with all it's race requirements (took me 3 months to finish a particular series as I waited for the random trading post thing to have a 1970s Japanese car!).
Forza might not be a better sim but it's certainly a better game.
Anyway im not telling you how to spend your money, just my opinion.I really like how you have already attended one of those car meets btw.
Of course I'm gonna attend meets :) Half the fun of owning a car like this is changing it and talking to other people who like doing the same. Looking forward to getting out on the track and seeing what some performance differences are like. Good mix of guys in the club too with some having dedicated track cars and others using road configs (more my sort of thing).
This is something I've wanted to do for a long, long time but I've never been in a situation where I've been able. When I was young enough not to have family commitments I never had the money. Then, when I had a bit more money, I had a mortgage and family and had to consider that.
Not sure if anyone here would fully understand what it means for me but buying this car is one of those big "dream" moments for me and I intend to enjoy the fuck out of it and make driving as much ofa hobby as gaming has now become. I've always enjoyed driving and tried to have nice but practical cars... now the time has come to have a fun car and spend a bit here and there when necessary to enjoy the mechanical side as well. Now... does anyone have a hoist I could borrow when this exhaust kit arrives? Lol
@Chamboosy @36Chambers93 - My dogs are both over 12 now. Asshole vet told me I had "senior dogs". They only joined our family recently and are still puppies in my mind dammit. Don't give me this "old dog" shit.
Anyway I got suckered in with the 6 monthly check. The sucky thing is that, when you're told your dog is old and that could catch anything early... well it's emotional string pulling right? Unless you're one of these assholes who prefers to put down their pet rather than spend $100 on repairs and maintenance you're always gonna go for whatever you think is best for the dog... to an extent. I've met two types of people over the past few years whos treatment of their pets doesn't meet with my approval... in all cases no fucks are given so I don't even mention it. Anyway...
1. People who have little to no emtotional attachment to their pet. They usually have one that seemed like a good idea when it was a puppy and the poor fucker lies around the house by itself all day waiting for them to get home and not walk or play with them. These people are the ones my vet friends hate as they usually opt for the "put the dog to sleep" option as soon as they become expensive.
2. People who confuse what's best for the dog with what's best for them. There was a guy at work who loved his dogs to bits however the dogs got some bad cancer leaving their faces alls crewed up. Dogs couldn't see and, by the end, could barely walk so they had to whimper and he'd carry the dogs outside to go dookie. I know he loved his dogs and didn't want to let them go but I found it really disgusting. The poor thing was in misery. I hope if I'm ever like that someone opts to have me humanely put down.
Oh yeah. We have a guy at work who races greyhounds too. I hate that as well. He doesn't even house the things. Keeps them at a kennel where they are cages stacked on top of each other and gets them out for training/races.@bayloski said:
@mystic_knight: I vote Chickan should replicate the old GS website on his domain and we can just post on there and ditch this crap.
Actually I did create a whole forum website using the DAFAP website but then decided not to post it here as I had faith we'd end up with our forums back. Seems like, if I made it live now, we may have missed the boat! Not enough members visiting here now to make it worthwhile.@
But it's your car so you can do what you want :-P
It's not this is it
or anything that involves a racing stripe or something that vaguely looks like a VE Walkinshaw bonnet.
Actually I just intended on blacking it. I like the look but many reckon it makes it look like I couldn't afford to color match the replacement bonnet or a try hard race car :)
My wife hates that AND the proposed wheel change. She likes cars that look expensive though which is a fair point. I prefer mine to look a little more sporty
@36Chambers93 - I agree with you 100% about the stable ride. I don't think warranty changes if I take it on track days... I just don't intend telling them ;) Also I don't intend racing. Time trials and cone navigation suits me perfectly fine :) Not that it makes a huge difference as far as someone looking at the car can tell.
If interested I found this vid of a 370z with the cat back exhaust system I plan on putting on. Even uses the same 12" resonators I bought.
Go to 1:08 to actually hear it all installed.
Also here's a comparison pic of the wheels I like vs what I have. Not entirely accurate as I did a botch job with photoshop but you get the point
Surprised no one's politely asked me to shut the fuck up about cars yet :)
The Z cars have the luxury of going either way in my opinion. When I mean either way, its either a sleek Jap look or a beefy American muscle look. Rims obviously will play a huge part in the overall look.
I have PMed Chickan about this a while a go and if it was me and I had cash I would also consider looking at forced induction as part of the look and feel of the car. If I was going for a muscle look, I would be supercharging the car or adding a turbo kit for a Jap style.
Just plays lots of Forza for test results. Forza is actually pretty decent at being realistic enough, I really respect the fact that they have genuine engine swaps and drive swaps. For example with the Silvia you can convert the SR20DET with a 350z VQ35DE or GTR RB26DET.
If I was Chickan though realistically, I see nothing wrong with the stock rims, which are 19 inch Rays anyway and I would be putting money towards coilovers and lower the car.
This brand is reputable and offers great results for the price.
Damn, just saw this and sort of addressed the turbo thing in my other answer :) There are a few nice twin turbo kits which, I think, would suit the way I drive (I prefer more punch coming out of corners as opposed to top end speed).
I used to find Forza gave a good feel for difference in car handling but I must admit the latest instalment, whilst a kickass game, doesn't have that same feel for me. Now I just go for number stats and drive them all exactly the same... well... dependant on which wheels are doing the driving of course :)
I looked at lowering it but decided to hold off until I'm in the new house. We have an ascending driveway and I'd hate to go back to a car that I have to be extra careful with on lips. I did that with my XU6 and, whilst the look and drive was worth it, the practicality downside was a biggie. Especially as it's my every day drive.
The other hard part for me is learning what affects the warranty on the car. As it's new I can't do some things like supercharging as it makes the warranty useless. Exhaust is fine though which I thought was cool. They obviously don't cover that part any more but that suits me fine :)
@36Chambers93 - Thanks for the feedback. I'm a member of a few car club forums and joined an especially good, Z specific one a few weeks back. Met with some of the guys over the weekend to check out their rides which was amazingly helpful. Not keen on any of their exhausts and noone else was running the one I plan to import so I guess I'm just gonna have to try my luck :)
Took a photo of a white piece of awesomeness I thought you would appreciate.
Also here are some of the wheels I've seen and liked on silver/gunmetal cars.
I've been to JDM before. Great site if you know what you want and they often sell the Japanese stuff I like which can be hard to get at places like TyrePower (don't laugh, they're surprisingly good). I actually found another mob (OTR Motorosports) that stock them locally AND can get me the McGard wheel nuts (American) I want too :)
Why is it that everything I want to buy has to be imported?!
And... yeah... about not having money to spend on mods... I changed my mind. The loan can stay a little longer. I'm not going to do much though...
just rims, lock nuts, tint, carbon bonnet, exhaust/ext and perhaps a cargo net to stop shit rolling around in the back. :)
Truth be told I've renewed my CAMS license and plan to take this car to track days. Got my first in Feb now and have even managed to get a guy with a twin turbo to come down with me so I can compare the performance of the two. First day is at Sandown with the second at Phillip Island. Next one after that is up in Sydney so I might even consider a road trip up there and come meet you guys. Would be later in the year obviously as, with a new baby, house, etc. I can't really venture out much in the first half.
@bayloski - I can see where you're coming from. For example this looks fantastic but, personally, I'm going for more of a race car look and would prefer the thicker, concave spokes. You'll probably both be devastated when you see what I do to the bonnet :) I know my wife is less than impressed.
Just an edit to throw this image in here. Tempted to wait until around March '14 for these bad boys to come back in stock. Larger image near the middle. Flat black color.
Lol. I was going to say you weren't as woggy as I'd anticipated but figured I might be called racist :) I've played with N-man a few times so knew what to expect from him. Same with Deathjestar :)
And yes I really do like dubstep. Not something I listen too often but, when I feel like something to psych up, it always does the trick.
@36Chambers93 - But I like dubstep... so does that mean I'll like the music? :) After looking into it a bit more, listening to you guys (Bennobee's also playing it atm) I think it's a definite buy for me. I loved the format of Burnout Paradise and it seems a bit similar mixed with NFS Underground... man that game had a great soundtrack. Got my copy free with a pizza when I was living in SA. One of the best experiences of my time there :)
@Nintendo_Man - For the achievement does it have to be all the same car? I.e. if I tell you the car I'm using can you make a tune for it I can use? That way I can get your stats up without doing any grinding. No offence but the game's just the right level of grind as it is. I don't intend racing for achievements so I'm not gonna grind for someone else to get em :) Happy to help out but not gonna spend hours doing short tracks to get number of races up and so on. Ruins the game for me.
@Chamboosy - I'll never understand people liking our accents. I have friends in California and North Carolina and both of them love hearing me speak. I hate hearing my voice. Noticed when playing Gears with the boys the other day that I sound way too bogan. Chambers has a great speaking voice but not as Italian as I was expecting. Anyway that's the Aussie accent I like. The "radio presenter" Aussie accent. I often wonder about how uptight people must be in other countries or if I maybe just don't know many relaxed people here as, to me, we don't seem overly laid back. People I choose to hang out with usually are because I'm a lazy friend who is more interested in relaxing and having fun than doing anything serious... but yeah
I like EB Games actually. My local store has a decent guy who knows about games and likes to chat about them. Happy to pay $10 or so more for a title, buy locally and get it a little early. That said I won't pay the $30-$50 more they often ask :) That stuff can wait 2 weeks for ozgame or zavvi or cd wow or someone to deliver!
Geez EB are going for over hype with their sale aren't they?! The prices are ok but nothing super amazing yet they're marketing the fuck out of it.
Anyone here do work on their own cars? Getting a new exhaust system and trying to decide whether to pay someone to install it or do it myself. Never done one before
Ah... ok. I guess that makes sense although I still don't really get why you'd enter a thread and just post a random pic.
On your second topic I'm always intrigued as to how people perceive Australians. I find those who think we're all like Steve Irwin to be a little sad/narrow minded actually. Pretty lame to base an entire country stereotype on a few characturised people rather than anything else we've done. Sadly we're probably more like Kath & Kim than we are Steve Irwin (although most Australian's wouldn't admit it) :)
That said I don't honesty believe people really see us all as Steve Irwin types. Not the majority anyway. But Steve Irwin is a fun/memey way of approaching Aussies. Like those imgur photos where someone posts a photo upside down and half the comments say "meanwhile, in Australia" :)
I dun get it
Just got a link to this in my carsales.com.au notifications :) Too late but... man I love these things. Even the old ones still have that sense of awesomeness!
