I got dupped into a best buy plan with my first HDTV purchase 5 years ago. Got the 3 year service plan that the guy in the store told me included a yearly cleaning, which made it in my mind totally worth the price I paid. First year passes and I call best buy to set up my cleaning...they tell me the contract I got does not have that. When I said the guy in the store said it did she said that they get complaints all the time on that but that there was nothing they could do. I eventually got my father in law involved as he is a lawyer and got my money back on the service plan after a fight with the store....never again will I buy one and I always laugh at them when they offer one. They still tell me I will be sorry if it breaks, but I tell them I would be more sorry if I got one of their sad plans.

Get the MS extended contract. When my xbox broke I sent it in, and got it back in 5 total days, no questions asked.

creekfan_basic
service plans for TV's aren't dumb i'd rather pay the $500 to insure my thing rather than pay some shmuck $180 an hour to fix it if/when it breaks considering my first LCD tv broke in the first month, i made sure i bought a SP after i exchanged it for a new tv

Im confused as to why you believe that they will credit you the money you spent on the 360 the second time around...if they wont give you your money back because it hasnt been 61 days...which you should have argued into the ground how much time 8 weeks acutally was and spoke to the store manager at this point...because no matter what the customer is always right....and go through all this BS...getting the box...standing in line...standing in line again...and then again...

And some how give them more money?

What? How does any of what happened lead to you giving them money?

And what in gods name makes you think they will give you a credit for the purchase?

jwat4

they told me they would credit the purchase. i was in the process of them crediting the purchase until they realized it was 56th day. they said come back in 5 days and they will reverse the purchase and credit me of course, now im so full of fire that if they try a thing i'll be complaining just like you guys are saying.

Well I've used the best buy plan on my 360 and the whole exchange took about 15 minutes. Not sure why yours is sending things out - they are supposed to replace it, not repair it.limafoxtrot
for the last time, i think it's a Canadian thing, not USA the website even says Service Plan to be added, not replacement

Hmm, I used to work at a BB last summer in Canada and I remember we sold PSPs for video game consoles (not me specifically though, I worked in Home Theatre), and in training I was basically told that PRPs would not apply to items that cost more than $200, anything eligible for an extended warranty that costs beyond that (i.e. an HDTV) we'd have to sell them the PSP instead. So the difference for us was a matter of price rather than the type of item itself.

cloudiest_wolf

Having worked at both BB and Circuit, Circuit flat out destroys BB in terms of service. The service/replacement policies are much easier to deal with as an employee and you have greater leeway to satisfy the customer. Some BB's are fine, but some have managers who are so completley self-absorbed and after that extra margin so they can get thier crazy-@$$ bonus that the customer is nothing. Really depends on the situation. I don't know how many times I was told by a manager at BB to screw a customer if possible. Circuit rules.

First off, i worked at a BBY in NC for about 2 years...Anyone who is seriously sitting here and bashing BBY b/c this nut had a problem is an r-tard! As stated several times BBY does not sell PSP's on video game systems...i would venture to say that this guy is stretching the truth a bit...For one its not a PERSONAL Service Plan. It's called a Performance Service Plan. For the consoles they sell PRP's which are Product Replacement Plans. Now i will not deny the fact that he may have had a problem or two gettin his stuff back to him (ive seen that before) but not to the extent of what he explains (again as someone stated earlier it could just have something to do with that particular store b/c some of them are bad, no argument there). Im not gonna come right out and call this guy a liar, but i dont care what pictures he posts or what he says he has, he doesnt have a PSP on a 360, it just doesnt happen. As for the guy with the laptop "lemon policy" problem. Yea...ummm...it has to be the EXACT SAME PROBLEM each time u bring it in. Now, if it was the exact same problem then u should have said something to one of the Geek Squad guys about it when u brought it in...there isnt some sorta of pop up that comes up and says, "HEY! This is the third time for this problem! Lets give this guy a new computer and lose a bunch of money on it!" Regardless of what issue u have with BBY, get the GM involved and i garauntee u will get what u want out of it...if they are good GM's that is. The common salesman or even tier 2 customer service person really doesnt have a lot of say in what goes on in the store. GM's are taught that making one customer mad spawns a whole bunch of other mad customers and more and more. THEY DONT WANT THAT! Make sure, however, that you ask for the GM and the just "your manager," complaining, moaning, and groaning on these message boards will do u no good at all. I promise! Go do it to a General Manager! It works.

because they are the ones who told me to buy it and they would credit it after 60 days. it's not an idea i thought up on my own.

The problem with all of these claims isnt BBY...its you ppl that dont read the terms and conditions before you buy this stuff.  Read what it covers b4 u buy! PLEASE!  I didnt call u a liar i, in a matter of words, merely stated that you should get your facts str8 before attacking a company.  To make this clear...i could care less whether you ppl like BBY or not, however, the fact that ppl get on here and bad mouth a company thereby making other ppl think the same thing is wrong.  If your claim is valid, by all means share, but if its ur own fault like the previous poster, dont even bother.  That guys seemed like a Wal-Mart customer shopping at a BBY.  Those PSP's cover certain things, one of which isnt software problems and a few harware problems. If someone ever tells u that these PSP's cover everything then they are lying to you. THEY DONT! Understand that they dont cover everything, but it is still ur responsibility, as a customer, to do the research and find out exactly what it covers.  It says right in the brochure what it covers.  Thats one of the reasons y the specialist gives it to you so you can read it...read it and dont expect some 16 yr. old kid who doesnt make commission to tell you!

my new console, the one i bought to replace the old one - is already broken. HD DVD drive isnt detecting and the neither are the wireless controllers. plus the "circle of light" isnt indicating which controller is connected (for the wired)

just got off the phone with xbox CS, they told me to send it in for repairs or return it to the store

haha, oh my luck.....when i go back to bestbuy it should be fun fun fun

you have no idea what you are talking about. the PSP covers everything and anything wrong with it. I have read the documents and I am covered, you are just assuming things based on your own ideas of whats going on. Get in touch with reality and what they cover, isnt exactly the issue. bestbuy is agreeing to fix everything with it, the issue is them losing my console and dicking me around for a replacement. please read threads before posting.

One thing I don't like about BestBuy is the online order/ pickup system.

Say if I wanna pre-order Halo 3 online, i can't pick it up at the store when it comes out, it has to be shipped to me and will take 2-4 days to arrive after the release date.

If I want to order it online and pick it up at the store, I would have to wait until the release date, then order it  online (if its not sold out) then possibly pick it up.

They sound pretty much like Dixons or PC World from over here. I remember being told by the guys behind the counter that if it's wrong/broken they can't change or refund it if it's out of it's sealed package. Bit stupid seeing as I'm studying law at uni.

I personally, have had great experiences with Best Buy. I went to buy a 42 Inch HD Plasma TV in 2004, they matched a competitors price, gave me a 10% discount, 80 dollars in gift certificates, AND A FREE XBOX! They were really nice, and generous about giving me extra stuff for free, just for asking!! Mine is on Ann Arbor-Saline road in Ann Arbor. I really enjoy their selection, they get the most everything. Hard to find new games? They get so many in its impossible not to find what your looking for! Ive ran into a couple annoying employees there, but overall have had good experiences there. I also like their sale specials, i got Rainbow Six Vegas for 40 bucks there...

Circuit City, at least locally, is terrible. I have been scammed whenever I tried to use their rebate system. Waste of time and money, and Best Buy will beat their prices by 10%. So never shop at Circuit City, they are sketching and some of the stuff they practice there is like fraud.

Best Buy does not sell PSPs (Product Service Plans) for videogame consoles.

However they do offer PRPs (Product Replacement Plans) for video game consoles.

So basicly your entire story is a lie.

I would know. I work for Best Buy in Florida.

The PRP covers basicly anything wrong with the console. Its a great warranty and works fairly well from past experience.

Generic_Dude

Yup... I used to work at one in South Florida. It's a lie.

That being said, some people around there were screwheads, but the company itself is pretty decent. It just depends on the store. The store I frequent is usually pretty good... in regards to the service plans, I'm the sort of person that believes extended warranties are for suckers. But the laptop plan is still a pretty good deal. There's the no lemon policy and it's covered if you drop it when you get the good plan.

Which one in South Florida did you work at? The one in Kendall or Cutler Ridge? I always used to shop there.

yeah i had a good experience somewhat with their TV department i ended up buying at Audio Video 2001. they gave me an amazing deal on the LG.' then the LG sucked and had issues so i took it back. they didnt even examine it, just told me no problem and that they would give me a refund or credit - i then went and bought the samsung LCD and they gave me the same doorcrasher deal i originally bought the LG at now THATS customer service

Wow mailman, u really are stupid.  I thought u were just messin around but your serious! I worked there for two years...i know ALL about the service plans.  I know for a fact that they dont cover EVERYTHING.  Ok say u buy a computer and u end up not liking it.  So u take a hammer and smash it...its gonna cover that? No! Say u install some software and u screw the computer up...is it gonna cover that? NO! Say u spill coke into ur 360...its not gonna cover that either!  You are really gullable and nieve if u think that a service plan from BBY, or any store for that matter, is gonna cover everything that goes wrong with a computer.

i know this is a 360 and not a computer, but im not just speaking to u.  Im speaking in general here.  If the hardware malfunctions and its the manufacturers fault then, yes, they will fix it.  If it is caused by the user then it wont be fixed or swapped out.  Im not saying that its ur fault, it sounds as if its just a malfunction, but just understand in the future that PSP's and PRP's are good to have, just read and make sure that u know what u are buying before u buy it.

so it really doesn't matter since there is no way that you bought a PSP on the console.  Do some research before you start makin $#!% up.  when you ring up a 360 it doesn't even give you the option to sell a PSP.  The PSP would be through microsoft.  they are the ones that fix the system.  I work at BBY and the only thing that you can get a PSP on it a TV, computer, camera, etc... things that we can fix.  not systems.

JohnWinger

for the last time it's not a lie. i even posted a link to the service plan page and the product page for xbox with the "add PSP" link

we're obviously doing something different in canada

I belive you now..

http://www.bestbuy.ca/psp/popup_benefits.asp?newlang=EN&SKU=0926INGFS10080318&Action=Add&logon=&langid=EN

That's just odd....

Anyways how did you buy it? Through the store or On-line?

If you took the broken 360 back to the store which you originally bought it, then they should have just exchanged it out for a new one.

You really need to complain to corporate about this incident.

Its a real foul up.

i purchased the PSP in store. even on the second one i bought they offered the same plan. this is entirely ass-backwards, i take it back to the store and they make me wait 61 days to get a new one....what am i paying for? lol

update:

went back

yadda yadda yadda, waited 2 hours to get everything sorted out by the manager

she took off $20 from the new console, tried to sucker me into a new PSP (aknowledged PRPs are only in the States). Told me Microsoft STOPPED DOING THE 1 YEAR WARRANTY AND IT'S BACK TO 90 DAYS to try to get me to buy their PSP, also told me while pointing to a figure in the pamplet that MS charges $155 for their service plan.....god, what a load of b.s.

anyway, at least i got a new working xbox. im going to be using the MS plan from now on!
