I play my games either for fun and competitio(sports) or for a cool light strory. The story can bea little gloom but Bioshock is going too far imo..Killing Little Sisters is a great moral question but not one I want to face playing a video game, i also dont wanna hear the death of little girls either...Some will love this game but I dont hink its for me or a lot of other people...Seems to for hardcore guys...the topic creator
It's not about killing little girls. It's about learning what happened to that world, making your way through it and the choices that requires. I'd say most shooters (Gears, Darkness, WWII games etc.) far darker a concept then Bioshock. Do some research, it's more horror RPG then shooter, much less one that involves killing little girls. And yes, it's dark, I have it pre-ordered.
wait wait wait..... Mass effect has a light upbeat story? its about the impending doom of mankind!!!
and you say slaughering a few helpless civilians in order to become stronger is not good? fie on you serpent of the gaming community!!!!
The NITE HAS SPOKEN!!!!
All great stories aren't all happy and fun, they have many dark elements in them but thats part of what makes them great. Bioshock may look weird but OXM said it was like playing through a novel and that right there is a selling point for me. Great stories are what make great games.
[QUOTE="tlcain"]There are definitely weirder games than Bioshock. Eternal Darkness anyone?JMart0492
Eternal Darkness was weird, but in a super-cool-awesome-tastic way.
But no one's forcing you to buy Bioshock. Some people like Bioshock, some like Super Princess Peach:). :|But seriously, some people do like SPP, that last sentence wasn't directed toward you, just in general.
TC needs a copy of Viva Pinata.blue_tape
Don't hate on Viva Piñata because it's colorful and looks like it's aimed for kids. The game is very enjoyable and surprisingly deep. You just have to have an open mind and you might enjoy it. That also applies to Bioshock. I think it's silly to write off a game before even trying it out.
I think that Bioshock is going to be different and refreshing. It breaks the mold and the way we've been playing FPS. The story seems dark but at the same time there's a real sense that your moral compass comes into question while playing the game.
The game's moral roads leads to two very different paths. On one hand you could obliterate every little sister so that you can steal their "Adam" and upgrade your abilities on the other hand you could rescue the little sisters thus collecting only a small portion of "Adam" and therefore making it harder to upgrade your abilities. The latter choice would make the game that much more difficult and it brings up the idea that you are sacrificing your ability to survive so that others can.
What could be more poetic than sacrificing your life for someone elses? If you ask me, Bioshock can either be a very dark story or it can be a story of hope and selflessness. It all depends on how you play the game. And that's what's going to make this game one of the best games i'll ever play.
actually refreshing storys and nice simple gameplay plus fun beats any involving story. for example i thought oblivion sucked it was just to boringlight story in a game = sucks
good deep involving story in game = goty
