Former British wrestler Mick McManus has died at the age of 93.

McManus - who was known as 'the man you love to hate' during his career - was one of the biggest names of wrestling during the 1960s and 70s.

McManus claimed to have made more British TV appearances than any other wrestler in a career which spanned more than 20 years. His death was confirmed by Frank Rimer, the organiser of the annual British Wrestlers' Reunion.

Rimer told BBC Sport: "Mick died at 01:00 BST on Wednesday after being in a coma for several days. "He was the greatest name in British wrestling history and his 1962 fight with Jackie Pallo was watched by over 20 million viewers.

"At the height of his fame McManus had a weekly column in the Sun newspaper and wrestled on the Generation Game. (BBC Sport website - Article & Mick McManus Wiki)
