You have to remember that Goku was much stronger than when he fought Cell.

Also, isn't Ascended SS Trunks weaker than SS Goku in the Cell Saga? Sure he was strong, but he couldn't move much :P

beat and beat, they didn't actually put much of a fight to be honest.  

You have to remember that Goku was much stronger than when he fought Cell.
