Well Sony's motto is "this is for the players" and if they don't then they can put that motto out to pasture.
Lets see how Sony spin this one.
Hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa... Another one who knows nothing about this topic..lol

Well, before Psyonix announced their plans to do this. This is them now saying that they are ready to flip the switch, which is a new story. Also, Psyonix, with the idea that this will benefit the life of their game will continue to talk about this to stoke the flame.
As far as MS not doing this before, that's a bit irrelevant to the story. Now, of course they had no reason to do this last generation but they are also under new management and Phil Spencer has made an effort to unify gamers in features and rhetoric so it's not some out of the blue move.
Bullshit RocketLeague was made on this gen and didn't have cross platform play even with PC on XBO because MS didn't allow it,they change it because of pressure.
I love how pathetic lemmings memory is..lol

No Sony said they would be happy to talk to publishers/developers who are interested in cross platform play. They were very cagey and did not give a definitive yes or no answer.
You can read Gamespot's article here

Dude stop your damage control FFXl had cross platform play between PS2,PC and xbox 360,Sony didn't refuse at any point and when the 360 arrived the PS2 was the undisputed leader so much this was true that it outsold the xbox 360 for the first 2 years.
When FFXl Hit the 360 it was a years old game on PS2 with cross play with PC.
On PS3 sony allowed it as well hell the PS3 even allowed PC mods.
It has being MS for years who has block it even this gen and even vs PC,let alone the PS4.

When did Sony beg MS to do cross play last year? can you link me the article as it should be an interesting read.
Sony i don't think so but developer sure have being fighting with MS to allow it..
Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn isn't coming to Xbox due to Microsoft not allowing cross-platform play.
Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn director Naoki Yoshida confirmed that the reason the MMO isn't coming to a Microsoft console is due to the hardware manufacturer's restrictive online policies that prevent cross-platform play.
This isn't the case with Sony, hence why the PS3, PS4, and PC versions of the rebooted MMO will all be able to play with each other.
"The main reason from our side is that I don't want the community to be divided; to be split into two or more," said Yoshida in an interview with RPGsite. "For example, one player might be on the PC version, another might be on the PS4 version, and I'm playing the Xbox version - but we're not able to join the same game servers. That is just... I just don't like the idea. I disagree with it."

MS policies cost you a FF game, trying to act now like sony is the pot hole now is a joke MS always was for years, and you can OPENLY quote several developer on it like i just did with FF one,and even Rocket League before MS 180 on the subject.
Speaking to GamesIndustry, Tsunoda said that Cross-Play is a powerful idea and a unique value that only Microsoft can offer, unlike the competition (Sony’s PlayStation 4).
For a long time we’ve had PC gamers and console gamers who weren’t really able to play together. That’s why Cross-Play is still such a powerful idea. You should be able to play what you love, and play together, regardless of what device you’re playing on. It’s about connecting people.
It’s a really unique value that only we can offer. You still need very gamer-focused values, but there’s lots of things you can do with our technology. We’ve really got a lot more going on [than our competitors]. We’re doing things that can’t be done on any other console.
Unfortunately, that just isn’t true no matter how we slice it. Sony has been offering PC – PlayStation 4 Cross-Play for quite a while: the first game to support this functionality was Gaijin’s War Thunder, and that happened on June 3, 2014.

And they are shitty liars to claiming cross platform play could only be offer by them..

The new version of console wars. Love it.
Its a good thing, because talking about which consoles are better grows old over time. Let's put up or shut up over some rocket league.
Just now have to wait to see if Sony HQ has the stones to make it happen.
Read tweet on this same post please it say who prevented the game from having true cross play,in fact RL didn't have cross play even with PC xbox owners were allowed to play only with other xbox owners and it was latter change because MS eased the policies as the backlash it created.

You can officially tag this one as another 180 from MS...
